With the recent world commemoration of the campaign against suicide. It becomes necessary to consider ways in which this growing social menace can be curbed easily in our community.

According to W.H.O, over 700000 people die due to suicide every year and the figure is increasing by 12.3% in recent years. With this alarming figure, the number of people that attempt suicide but failed due to one reason or the other has also increased.

To beat this number down, we must look at the common causes of suicide in our community. According to research, financial, mental, and psychological factors are the leading causes of suicide.

In the facts of W.H.O, 77% of global suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries. This ascertains the fact that depression is a major cause of suicide. It causes more than half of suicides worldwide.

How does depression lead to suicide?
The means are evident at the end of this question but still I will explain in order to make the point vivid. Depression is a serious mental illness that negatively affects the moods and behavior of the patient. It causes drastic changes in the character, interest, and feelings of the person. Financial issues are major causes of depression in any society. Bankruptcy, failed business, poor sales, low income, and heavy debt can easily slip one into depression. Likewise, relationship issues like a failed marriage, heartbreaks, divorce, infertility, and some others.

Poor stress management can also cause depression. It breaks down the health-resisting factors and puts a heavy burden on the physical and psychological of a person.

How to reduce the suicide rate by overcoming depression
When one of the major causal factors of suicide is subdued it will weaken the suicide rate. Depression being one, can be subdued through the following ways.

There are traditional ways of treating depression which include

Mental or psychiatric therapy
Group talking
Regular exercise: Enough exercise will enlighten moods and feelings which then scare away any form of depression or mood feelings
Healthy diet
Avoid alcohol
Proper stress management
Financial discipline: A disciplined person will find it easy to control his financial activities and reduce the chance of debt or any financial crisis that can lead to depression.
Proper emotional control: This covers the relation causes. When emotions are properly controlled, it limits the chance of heartbreak, relationship troubles, and other emotional issues.
