We are all know that the cost of national governance is freaking high but we keep believing of running away from our shadow. Talk is truly cheap. Otherwise, the needful would have been done shortly after Orosanye led committee submitted her report. 1 Like |

remsonik: Then what’s the essence of scrapping them, if their staff are moved to other agencies? Won’t the overhead continue? People like you are parts of the reasons Nigeria is not moving forward. Your sense of reasoning does not go beyond your community. An agency was paid N1.3 billion so that it can generate revenue that is higher than 1.3B but it was generating N5million that Chinedu who is selling spare parts at Ladipo market can generate more than that in a year and you said they should retain staff of such agency? A lot baby commenters are too much on nairaland. Do you know how many ghost workers that are in government ministries and agencies? Do you know how bogus their expenditures are? Those agencies were created to please some god fathers and create conduit pipes for helping greedy Nigerians smuggle lazy Nigerian youths into government work and also steal from budgetary allocations. Scrapping those agencies will free up nothing less than 3 trillion Naira yearly which government spend on them. It is the same way they approved cr.azy salaries for our legislators that they approved cr.azy allocations to these MDAs. They lobby every year to get their budgets approved and have allocations disbursed on time. They do nothing at work. They resume lately and close early. They are there busy sleeping with themselves. For instance, if you have any document to sign. At Fed Min of Foreign Affairs in Abuja and you don’t get there before 12pm, they won’t sign again. They would say they have closed. Ask them to know the time they resumed. You only need to bribe or lobby to have your documents signed after 12pm. That’s just 1 out of so many of them. A lot of those Ministriesand Agnecies created have duplicated roles. They have overlapping responsibilities. There is serious rot in all our government system. I worked in CBN in 2002 and I felt I had seen it all until I am seeing these in later years across our agencies. Go to IDSL, go to NNPC Medical etc. and see the rot. And see how they are wasting government money and stealing. Go to PPMC. When I was in Benin, PPMC has its own plane that was flying Benin to Lagos every Friday and Lagos to Benin every Monday. The plane was always filled all sorts of people who don’t even work with the agency. They ride freely on federal government. Some PPMC make cheap money from this by collecting bribe and giving pass to whoever wanted to board. Then what is PPMC doing with plane? They pay pilots and engineers and technician who service the plane o. These are staff that have collected their transport allowances o. The kind of free food they eat at NNPC medical no be here. People from town go there to eat free food courtesy of an insider. Staff steal expensive drugs and medic stations to go and open their own pharmacies and clinics in town. Whenever they run out of cash as a staff of these MDAs, they just go to their clinic and talk to the doctor to give them some money like N100k and the doctor will write a bill to their office that they received medical treatments and the doctor would do because it is the same staff that would process the bill when the doctors sends in his invoice. This is just one of several thousands way they steal from government. There used to be an Agric Department in CBN. Go there and find out what people in this agency or unit of CBN do with money meant for my father and your father who are farmers. You will want to skin them alive if you see what they are packing on a monthly basis. The list is endless. The level of corruption and stealing from local government to federal is alarming. We don’t need too much ministries and agencies to run as a county. Go and read the Orosanye report. I don’t know why government don’t make such report public. If you haven’t seen it, visit the constituency of your senator and request for a copy. They all have access to it. We need to run a lean government. Don’t pity those that would be asked to go when the agencies are scrapped. They are already millionaires, up to the lowest grader among them. They steal on a daily basis. I am sure a lot of us have families in all these yeye ministries or we plan to join them, that’s why we have emotional attachment to them. The US Federal Reserve (their own CBN) is a private company. And it makes profit yearly. The same thing is applicable to Switzerland and some European central banks. They were not created because of federal character. These are parts of the reasons no government can perform in Nigeria. Employees cost is too high. Upon that, they still pad their capex and opex and steal more than 75% of it. If we like, we can bring Osibanjo+Kwankwaso+Moghalu+Sowore+Tinubu+Obi+Atiku+Pat Utomi etc to rule as joint president for donkey years, Nigeria is going nowhere if we don’t close eyes (daju) and make some lasting changes on this country from local government to federal. We are too hypocritical. We hide under ethno-religious and emotional banners to do a lot of things in Nigeria and it has not helped. With the use of IT and its infrastructure, even those 106 MDAs suggested to be retained can still be reduced further to, like, 65. Automation and ERP systems for running government are plenty in the market. Common local government abroad automate and use software to run things effectively. Government does not need to invest in servers and cybersecurity expert. There are secured blockchain severs that can be leased to warehouse our government data being worked on by staff of all these MDAs. AWS is there. Azure etc are there. Go and read more about Estonia and how its government is using IT to run the country. It is only marriage that you can’t conduct online in Estonia. 99% of what you want to do with their government is done electronically. Estonia does not have ministries and agencies scattered around like we do here. We only created redundancies, nepotism and corruption and we call them ministries. I repeat, NIGERIA IS GOING NOWHERE, IF WE DONT CHANGE HOW WE DO OUR THINGS. Enough of all these emotional attachments to everything we do. 1 Like |
