While I agree with the more drugs part, but there is a drastic reduction in the percentage of alcohol consumers than some hundred years back.
In past centuries all adult males in many societies drank alcohol. It was culture in many parts of Asia, Africa and among the native Americans.
Also, I disagree with the vice aspect. We have reduced many evil vices such as global slavery, sex with minors. Many cultures in Africa, Asia and Europe did not consider it criminal to rape war enemies. We have also done away with cultures and customs that we are just evil.
So with the exclusion of certain new drugs that past generations did not have what new vices are there today that we're not around in let's say 100 years ago?
