West Africa - and particularly its most populous nation, Nigeria - is battling an opioid abuse crisis. Medicines such as tramadol, legally and legitimately prescribed by doctors for pain relief, are also being taken in life-threatening doses by millions in search of a fix or a release from poverty, unemployment and lack of opportunity.

People & Power sent filmmakers Naashon Zalk and Antony Loewenstein to Nigeria to investigate how the drug is smuggled, traded and abused, as well as the widespread corruption that follows this illicit trafficking, and the appalling health consequences for those in its grip.

Drug abuse of one of the commonest societal menace in Nigeria and globally no doubt. But the increasing hardship, and depression back here from the wahalas of life is dragging our people into drug and other substance addictions as the respite.

Nigerians have no opioid crisis.. its you Western people that love the xoke and heroin so much so people nake money by supplying your addicted asses..

White pple are very hypocritical.. locked and harrassed black pple for weed for years.. then legalise and now many white companies cashing out on legal weed

Any Nigerian that tries anything more than weed na OYO be him case.

Its actually in US there is an opioid crisis, with cheap , easy to overdose fentanyl being added. People just overdosing and dying like flies.

No feel say because u saw it in a film o.. be very scared of those hard drugs .. colorado, ice, coke, heroin, etc,,

After women, run away from illicit drugs.

If you truly know how illicit drugs have rendered many destinies hopeless, perhaps you may understand it's no brainer that teens are running delinquent and viscious erratic.

Say No To Drug. Remember Naanu late father was brutally killed by his fellow drug addicts and his body fed to crocodile. It's a terrible experience anytime Naanu remember the incident.

angry

It is this present generation. They are so addicted to drugs it s unbelievable. Boy the boys and girls. During my generation it was rap music, rock n roll, girls and just being happy.

Now this generation mostly care about drugs. They wreck everything they touch. From marriage to beliefs ... They spoil everything. Nothing is sacred to them. all they care about this money to get high...
