The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has reacted to the Industrial Court judgement which ordered her members to suspend their ongoing strike immediately.

CAMPUS GIST reports that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) in Abuja had on Wednesday ordered ASUU to immediately suspend the ongoing industrial action and return back to work.

Justice Polycarp Hamman of the Industrial Court held that the strike was a breach of the Section 18(1)(2) of the Trade Disputes Act, which prohibits their action.

Reacting, ASUU, on its Facebook page, noted that the Association’s Lawyer is filing an appeal and a stay of execution on the matter immediately.

“Our lawyer is filing an appeal and stay of execution of the judgment. A people united can never be defeated,” ASUU wrote.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has rejected Wednesday’s ruling of the Industrial Court, describing it as a “black market judgment.”

The right thing is for ASUU to immediately comply with the judgement of the court while still appearing the ruling. Continuing with the strike in disobedience to a valid court judgement is illegal and condemnable.

They must call off the strike immediately in compliance with the judgement in the overall interest of Nigeria.

Refusing to work while not on strike will simply attract administrative sanctions. It’s called gross misconduct in the public service and there are ways of dealing with that.

Call off the strike then when the stay of execution is obtained or they got a successful appeal, they now go back on strike abi? Let this matter be dealt with till the end so that this every year strike will end. Going to court was wrong move be the FG.

The problem didn't start from this current administration. I know two lecturers that have died already during this seven months of unpaid salaries. ASUU cannot be satisfied with anything the government propose. The problem of Nigeria is a special case. If ASUU's demand is met, NASU will start theirs, Polytechnic and colleges of education workers will start, Doctors will start. ....... its a crazy situation. The next president of NAIJA go hear weeehnnnnn...
