Outgoing governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, who doubles as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) on Thursday attended his last meeting, where he spoke glowingly of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

He described Osinbajo who also doubles as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) of exemplary leadership, especially in galvanizing ideas from governors across the federation to foster development.

Fortunately, the meeting was the 127th NEC, and it was held virtually with State Governors, some Deputy Governors and key federal ministers in attendance.

According to Dr. Fayemi, having served in previous NEC and longer than most current members, he can affirm that the VP’s leadership has been outstanding, adding that the Council has never had the kind of leadership that Prof. Osinbajo has provided.

He said he was optimistic that such leadership of NEC would be maintained going forward.

The Vice President also returned the commendation from the outgoing Ekiti State Governor.

On behalf of the NEC, the VP also praised Governor Fayemi especially in his role as Chair of the NGF and noted his “informed and patriotic contributions” to the work of the NEC.

The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Moses Frank Ekpo, also commended the VP’s leadership of the Council and paid tributes also to the outgoing NGF Chairman for leading the Forum so ably. He also thanked the outgoing Council Secretary for a job well done.

The Vice President agreed with him that, indeed, the NEC & NGF are ensuring that the country moves as a nation even more towards a true federation, not just in words but in action.

Meanwhile, the NEC meeting deliberated on the flood disasters prevalent in some states, where they also adopted strategies to step up service delivery in the grassroots and how the flood can be mitigated.

Other deliberations also centred on the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) in relation to COVID-19 and emerging cases of monkeypox.

On Covid-19, experts maintained that the global caseload has remained stable, noting that the high burden of cases in 2021 is comparable to 2022 so far.

Officials of the NCDC equally asserted that the test positivity rate in Nigeria was in the threshold of 16.9% as at 36th week, with no death in the past week, while 6 states returned no testing at all.

The agency, however, noted that trends indicate that COVID-19 cases have increased by 3% across the states & FCT. And that the COVID-19 pandemic is not fully over.

As a way of advisory, the NCDC urged states to commit more testing, including routine testing and frequent testing for health workers, while Private health institutions be encouraged to do more testing.

“Council noted that the NSIA (Establishment) Act, 2011 provides that all appointments of individuals into the Board of Directors “shall be made by the President on the recommendations of the Minister of Finance, who shall consult with the National Economic Council (NEC).”

“Council was also called to note that following the notification of the expiration of the tenures of the Managing Director/Chief Executive Directors, the Honorable Minister constituted the Executive Nomination Committee (ENC) to fill the vacant positions;

“Council then noted that the outgoing Managing Director/Chief Executive officer will expire on the 30th September, 2022,” a statement summarising the presentations at NEC by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the VP noted.

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance and National Planning, Zaniab Ahmed presented the outcome of the search to fill the positions of NSIA MD/CEO and 2 Executive Directors which are becoming vacant with the expiration of the terms of the current holders.

The names of the nominees were presented, and NEC gave its endorsement to the President for his approval.

For those claiming APC should have fielded osinbajo, will you people have sincerely supported Osinbajo against Peter Obi

Or you are only interested in APC fielding a weaker candidate that you are not interested in supporting anyway
I wonder o,they want a soft platform.

Fayemi the thief.

It is so disappointing that a crusader for democracy and freedom in the days of Abacha with the use of Radio Kudirat then turned out to be one of the most kleptomanic governors/politicians of the democratic era he fought for.

¶ His first term was riddled with refusal to remit workers cooperative savings, hence many ended up getting anything between 20% to 50% of their monthly salaries, yet unable to approach the coop societies for loans because their savings there has been held back by Fayemi.

¶ Towards the end of Fayose era, he (Fayemi) in his campaigns promised to pay back the three months salaries owed civil servants within 6 months of his being sworn in as second term governor. Truly the APC-led FG remitted a large chunk of money to him at that time to kick start his governance in the state, an opportunity he was expected to have utilized to settle the backlogs but he held back that money and diverted it to personal use.

¶ Taxes and IGR in the state were unofficial and have only been generated for the governor, not for the development of the state.

¶ All through his second tenure, he did not do any promotions or recruitments of note in the civil service. Segun Òní's tenure was the last time civil servants in the state experienced any semblance of "promotion backed by emoluments increment". Every other regime had only been "promotion on paper", including Fáyòșé's.

¶ Even now his second tenure is replete with the same modus operandi of refusing to remit workers cooperative savings to the respective thrift and credit societies. Those workers that realized early were smart enough to sign out of the various coop ventures of their choice and thus get their salaries in full. But for those that realized late, it is not something to envy. Fáyemí too, realising a trend that the cooperative savings monies of the civil servants accruing to him monthly is geometrically reducing coupled with resultant increment in wage bill and finding out why, quickly legislated that any cooperative society that allows members to exit the scheme either forcefully or voluntarily risks getting sanctioned. This is to ensure that the monies of these people that he has been diverting continues to remain so.

¶ The teaching hospital staff in the state live in the most harrowing financial conditions as they are not regularly paid, hence there has been massive resignations from the staff who have moved on to the federal hospital in the state where their colleagues have better standard of remuneration for works done.

¶ As his second term tenure approaches expiry, he begun a major road rehabilitation in the state in the usual manner politicians do when they plan to use ill intended projects to siphon monies as their term draws to expiry. He completed only 10% of that project and for 4 months he had abandoned it. The road (Ado township-Ifaki Road) which was hitherto manageable for motorists had now become a death trap because the grading removed the remnants of tar that were useful for commute from the road, leaving only earth/soil the whole stretch of the road which has deteriorated to muddy sinkholes with the start of the rainy seasons.

¶ He also unleashed the state IRS service, the FRSC and state VIO on motorists in the spirit of revenue generation drive, which is not a bad thing really. However the question is why do this at a time when your tenure expires in two months when you could have done such the moment you're sworn in for a second tenure. The obvious driving force behind that his sudden brain wave is the need to generate more money that he will take with him as he leaves, and not because he intends to use the IGR and taxes to develop the state.

If someone who prides his emergence as a crusader on the June 12 chronicles can turn out to be one of the most corrupt, despotic and notorious perpetrator of the same evil he despises and condemns at that time, it is a huge dissapointment for people like us who sat excitedly by our radios as 7pm approaches everyday to listen to his baritone voice rendition of speeches on Radio Kudirat channel during those days of NADECO (National Democratic Coalition) which championed the struggle that culminated in the demise of General Sanni Abacha and emergence of Major General Olusegun Obasanjo as the democratic leader of the 3rd Republic.

He had a choice to be different. Awolowo was different. Jakande stood out and was different. Yet they both were not poor in life and in death. So why would this shameful man not be a crusader of lasting legacy for his people in Ekiti and for the Yorùbás in general?

Fáyemí, I spit on you. You suck!
