Hi everyone. I am new to fish farming and I wanted to start with 6000 catfish. The expert I employ gave me the following feeding program for 6000 fishes to achieve 800g to 1kg at the end of 4 months period.

1st month 1mm 6bags
2nd month 2mm 20 bags
3rd month 3mm 30 bags
4th month 4mm 30 bags

I am afraid this feeding formula might not achieve the target weight of 800g -1kg within the four months period based on what I have read online and on YouTube videos. But the expert have repeatedly assured me the feeds will be okay. He told me he has rear catfish from hatching to table size using similar feeding program. Please I need advice on this as I am seriously confused whether to go ahead. I don't want to run into losses.

Notes : The expert want to stock the ponds with 10-15g Juvenile to kick off the project.

If you are planning to raise for 10 months, 100bags is enough for 1000 fishes with average weight of 2.5kg.

So you will need about 600bags for 6000 fishes for a period of 10 months.

but if your average target weight is 1.5kg which is attainable in 6 months, you will need 420bags for 6000 fishes.

Note: if you are using low quality feeds, you will need more bags of feed, and longer period of time to acheive your result

Your expert, it seems, is lap top farmer. 86 bags to feed 6000? Laughable if they are the normal floating feeds in 15kg bags. From experience about 60 to 66 bags is needed to feed 1000 fishes to attain average of 1kg/fish in 4 months. With current low quality of inputs, feed and seed, you may not even be able to attain that average weight in 4 months.
Be wary of consultants that make such watery claims. He is up to some game.
