If Nigeria has used all the energy it spent in championing cow-related issues since the inception of this administration to pursue true national problems like this flooding challenges, maybe things like this will not continue to be a yearly experience for its citizens.

The South-east is landlocked just Like the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State. Are some Igbo speaking part of Delta Like Aboh, Okpai, oko etc not affected by the flood? In your attempt to sound sound woke, you did nothing other than to expose your crass ignorance.

All your education didn't make you to know that Anambra state has riverine areas along the River Niger, and that the famous Anambra river basin which is a tributary of the River Niger lies within the state.
Your education didn't expose you to the knowledge that Kogi state, which so far, is the most affected by the flood has a boundary With the Northern part of Anambra, and that along that axis, there is a Long stretch of Marshy and swampy lands, whose physical features are similar to what we have in Bayelsa and riverine parts of Delta and Rivers States. That particular place is where this community on the camera, Anam is located.
You further exposed your ignorance about the geography of the country by questioning why the River Benue does not cause flood in Akwaibom and Calabar. For real? Are you so dumb not to know that River Benue does not pass through Akwaibom and Calabar? FYI, River Benue enters Nigeria through Adamawa, and flows through Taraba, Gombe, Plateau ,Nasarawa, and finally meets the River Niger at Lokoja, Kogi state. Having accumulated the water from River Benue, Niger now flows southwards from Lokoja to Anambra (where Anambra River basin and Anam are lactated), Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states.
All these states are affected by the flood.

Stop displaying your ignorance on a public forum

The guy is an idiotic northerner, ignore the cow sniffing f00l.

You aren't getting the point, are you?
If Lagos experiences flooding, it's expected.
Kogi is a confluence state.
How is Anambra submerged in flood, literally having it worse than other states bordering Cameroon? And River Niger?
it's not about States bordering Cameroon, all the states through which River Benue and Niger drains on it's way to the ocean are all flooded including Bayelsa and Rivers state

Exactly what I have been waiting for you to bring up because you all appear deluded.

What's that thing you said about the cause of this particular flood?
Overflow of River Niger? Or Lagdo dam in Cameroon?
Mind you, to help your ignorance. River Benue is what has link to Lagdo Dam not River Niger, so please make me understand why Anambra is submerged in flood?
The River Benue is connected to the river Niger at Lokoja, from there it forms a confluence on its way to the Ocean via Niger Delta,
so anything that affects Niger will affect Benue and vice versa.

*Inability of Nigerian FG To Build Dasin Hausa Buffer Dam In Adamawa State is the Cause of the Massive Flooding.*

The construction of the Lagdo Dam located in Northern Cameroon started in 1977 and was completed in 1982.

Due to the release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, many Nigerian communities along the courses of River Niger and River Benue have been affected by floods.

The flooding which has claimed many lives and properties has also ravaged communities in Delta, Benue, Adamawa, Taraba, Anambra, and Nasarawa state.

In September, the National Emergency Management Agency and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NHISA) informed Nigerians that “the Lagdo Dam operators in the Republic of Cameroon, had commenced the release of excess water from the reservoir on September 13, 2022”.

The agencies said they were “aware that the released water cascades down into Nigeria, through River Benue and its tributaries, thereby overwhelming communities that have already been impacted by heavy rainfall”.

But the flooding problem can be traced back to the 80s when the Nigerian government failed to honour an agreement it had with the Cameroonian authorities.

The construction of the Lagdo Dam located in Northern Cameroon started in 1977 and was completed in 1982.

At inception, Cameroon and Nigeria had an agreement to build two dams such that when water is released from the Cameronian dam, the Nigerian dam would contain it and prevent it from causing floods.

So, to cushion the effect of possible flooding from the Lagdo dam in Cameroon, the Nigerian government agreed to build a shock-absorber dam tagged Dasin Hausa Dam in Adamawa State.

The Dasin Hausa dam was supposed to be two and a half the size of the Lagdo dam, which was built to supply electricity to the northern part of Cameroon and allow the irrigation of 15,000 hectares of crops downstream.

Like the Lagdo dam, the dam project sited at the Dasin Village of Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State was supposed to generate 300 megawatts of electricity and irrigate about 150,000 hectares of land in Adamawa, Taraba, and Benue states.

But sadly, since 1982, the Nigerian government has yet to complete the building of the Dasin Hausa dam.

As a result, anytime the Cameroonian government releases excess water from the Lagdo dam, communities in Kogi, Benue, Adamawa,Anambra Delta ,Bayelsa, Edo State get flooded.

According to the spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Manzo Ezekiel, the 2022 flooding is the highest Nigeria has ever had since 2012.

The Damages So Far In 2022

The flood has displaced thousands of Nigerians resident and many houses completely been submerged for days.

A lot of persons have reportedly died and vast hectares of farmland have been destroyed.

Since the opening of the Lagdo dam in September, thousands of people have reportedly to have flee for safety. IDPs campaign has been open to temporary accommodate victims.
Four LGAs namely Ahoada East, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada west and Abua/Odual Are all submerged in Rivers State.

Is the government there not one? Haven't you heard about embarkment before? Why is ozumba road in ikoyi not flooded again. What preventive measures have been put in place before now abi the water just appeared suddenly. This has been in existence before now , it's almost a yearly thing but after the flood they give the victims indomitable lion indomie and student bed to go and sleep on the bare floor.

When you have sound people in government, their thinking will have positive effect on the people they rule.

However, the choice is before us to choose between life and death, between the greedy old order or new breeds without greed. Those who are as old as their ideas cannot make any positive change neither do accidental governors or presidents have anything to offer. I so submit

The water released flows downward, after meeting with River Niger in the Confluence Town, Lokoja, Kogi State, mind you Anambra shares boundaries with Kogi.
It includes the valley of the lower Anambra River, which is a tributary of the Niger River.
Educate the fools.

God bless akwa ibom governors for proper drainage system. The heavy downpour we had a day be yesterday, nothing would've stopped Nwangiba flooding that particular day. But thanks to our good drainage system. God bless our governors.
So drainage can avert this kind of flood. These Nairaland kids self.

The flood as a result of the water released at Lagdo Dam &hasn't reach Akwa Ibom State, the flood is beyond man control with drainage system in place, even with the drainages in Uyo, we still have minor flood in some areas in Uyo, AKS when it rains heavily.

Just shut up and get enlightened.

There was a dam that was opened in Cameroon in September that's majorly responsible for this.

IMO, if our government is wise enough, the agreement as to operation of that dam should be revisited. They opened it to save themselves of the situation at that level of the river, only to cause loss of lives and property at the tail end of the river

Government of both countries have to to.come to a very serious agreement. Even if it means dismantling the dam and providing and alternative source of power.

Dis will discontinue build up of water caused by the presence of dams. The river basin will gradually take up it's natural area and flow freely with time. Rather sudden opening the causes overflow into areas of habitation

Because wether we like it or not. This will still happen again in years to come if no action is taken
