The village of Okpongette Nturokim, Akparabong in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State has been deserted after assassins hacked a retired police chief to death in his bedroom. The retired deputy commissioner of police from the village was identified as James Ndifon. He was said to be a respected member of the community.

P.M.News gathered that he was sleeping in the upper floor of his two-storey building in the night of 6 August when two men stormed the place and held his wife hostage at gun point.
