Ibokun is a populated place in Osun State , Nigeria. It is located at an elevation of 416 meters above sea level.Ibokun is the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area, Osun State. The postal code of the area is 233.
Its coordinates are 7°46'6" N and 4°43'0" E in DMS (Degrees Minutes Seconds) or 7.78333 and 4.71667 (in decimal degrees).
According to National population Commission in 2006, National Population Census which was stated that Ibokun Ijesha Community comprises of 8,000(Eight Thousand) people.
Main history of ibokun ijesha
Ibokun is one of the oldest town in ijesha land.It has be in existence for over 200years before Ilesha and Osogbo,Ibokun has got third name before now.
The first name is Ilupeju, he doesn't have wife and children that is why he was the first person to reach the town and because he is hunter that was why they called the town Ilupeju.
Later Itaa came he change the name of the town to Ilemure,is bearing Ilemure before Obokun came,Obokun is part of Odudua children which is "Ajibogun" during his journey his father "Odudua"lost his sight (turn to blind) and mind you Obokun is a nick name because his father eyes has lost his sight (eye problem), they consult the Ifa oracle that if he didn't see sea water, he won't open his eyes,Obokun one of his children second to the last now decide that; despite all of his brother said that Alafin of Oyo said that; if you are Orangun ile ila, that is why all of his brother decide to left their father,he later decide until he get sea water for his father to relief his father eyes,he enter into that journey for several years at the end of the day he get the sea water and carry the sea water to his father to use the sea water to wash his eyes and his eyes open. When he open his eyes he said; in Yoruba 'Obu okun' that is where Obokun come out
Obokun is a nick name ,Ajibogun is the real name of Obokun
Note that; "ASA" is a name (oruko) but not real name Obokun is ASA
BEFORE OBOKUN CHANGE TO IBOKUN
when he got the sea water,his father look around all his house, he didn't see all the brother of the person who get the sea water(Obokun), all his brother have pack away, his father looked down he saw hypo sword (ida ijase) his father now gave the sword to his child(Obokun) that all his brother, if he see them he should use the sword to cut off his brother head, but when he Left ife town, the child went to their headerly brother which is alafin of oyo.
when he get to Alafin of oyo, he live with him for short period of time, Alafin was unable to handle the child (Obokun) because the child was war inspired, Alafin of Oyo said may be he should come out and find his way through the journey, that was when itaa got her location which is town.
Baba Podu which is called Ejemu the child meet him their but when he meet him,he saw him riding horse where he tie the leg of the horse, where smoke is coming out after that their are two important type of erand eating that time which are; Ogunija and Itaa Olode amoba, they are the one Baba Podu which is ejemu send and errand to go and look at the smoke that his rising up, when they got their they meet Itaa olode Amoba but they didn't know that Itaa has went to consult Ifa oracle at ifa shrine (di ifa) that he will have a visitor that is going to help him and his going to have strong person as a visitor, later the person come and Itaa welcome him.
When the visitor enter Itaa said; Do you know that we use to do festival every year, so Itaa now gathered the drum and start drumming,Itaa want to start that play so Obokun now said be drumming, Itaa said that if he drum war will start that all the town surrounded him will fight him.Obokun reply Itaa that he should be drumming let see and Obokun is war inspire that is while he go with sword and that is while they said Owa ijaka OnI Ija arara and they said Owa Obokun, when he get to the town as a visitor Itaa show him a way.
If you look at Obokun and Itaa you will see both facing each other. When Itaa get to the town fighting with sixteen town(16) and he won all sixteen town(16), by that time Obokun was Ilemure,because of this reason, Obokun fight Itaa and over power him. After sometimes they now change the town to Ibokun that is how Obokun Come.


After Obokun Change to Obokun
When the town change to Obokun and when he was their he detect that all his children were females and to win other town which someone can't fight like Ilaare will be very hard, but when he see that he can't fight them, that is how he make friend with living people that; they will marry his daughter but he told all his daughter that they are going to ilaare that they shouldn't marry anybody, that we need the power living people use we want it, that is how female people start, living people think that they have seen wife along the line,he carry all those girls he let them non that he has a drum,that if he drum immediately they will standup and fight him, when they want to fight,Obokun carry that drum to one side and made another drum related to former drum, that is how he fight Ilaare. Obokun now curse and said that any Obokun child that marry to Ilaare will not better for that person (koni San).

When Obokun is Looking for Male Child
When Obokun has won and stop fighting, later he ask why don't him born male child, he now went to ifa shrine to consult ifa oracle(diifa) and mind you anything that is not clear they will go to ifa shrine to consult the oracle and find out, ifa said; he should carry the idol of ibokun mother house, that is the place where ibokun migrate.
When he was going to ifon, Ibokun house in Ifon the called it "Ajee house"(ile Ajee) that is the place where they born " Ibokun grand mother" (iya tobi iya Obokun) and ibokun mother is "Ifon Orolu" while ibokun father is "Odua" and do you no that Ibokun was claiming his father house and that why they brought the idol to Ibokun which is "Obatala" but they called it "orisa onifon" when you reach round about in Ibokun you will see the statue (ere) house of Obaloro with Adeoro, Obaloro shift as a king from that place(obaa Latin I've yen) Obaloro and Olorioro carry the statue (ere) together through that statue (ere), they born "Owa" then Owaa born a male child and that male child born "Ibokun" while Obokun born "Ooye".
That is the reason if you do any favour (sanu) for Obokun he will kill you for example_ _
Where Obokun killed the man who build statue_ _
There was a man building statue(ere), as he build that statue (ere) for Obokun finished, when he said he should be open the door and be going Obokun submitted all the gift to him after that,he killed the man, all the people who follow the man,they are the one who packed the gift away themselves, Obokun have killed him and that man come from efon, that time lupasi was the one that consulted ifa oracle (diifa), Obokun deceived lupasi from ikota and he deceived lupasi to the place where he killed the man that built the statue (ere), in the the place where lupasi build his house.
That was how Obokun Change from Ilemure to Ibokun

Out of those town listed above most of them are no more inexistent, the houses there has been demolished.

Communities in Ibokun.
Ijesha Community: like ilesha,when Ibokun wanted to sink, he sink beside Obaloro which has three doors he didn't die,in the olden days there was a chain that usually come out that time Ibokun said when there is war they should call him, but t Ibokun people deceived him ,in that place they called it "Itaaji land" (ile itaaji) somebody that has sank before, but they called him, he still come out in spirit, he was killing them but he killed them them to one stage, second stage when he see that he is killing all his children, he now talk in spirit that if you want to fight again, he will only come out to help you.
33 chiefs Obaloro is choosing but recent Obokun king,Obokun tie his neck and put him in bound age but later Obokun removed the rope from his neck,when he want to go and collect all Obokun property, but the story told us that Obokun didn't use Cutlass and Gun, that Obokun said they should help him to get "200 pieces of ogunso" and he used them for 'amii' to know where Ibokun property is, that is where Ibokun and Osogbo meet together because laro is junior brother to Ibokun but laaro didn't have power to handle and fight Obokun,so Obokun used the opportunity to carry the load from their to Itaa,Obokun now handle laaro to Obaloro that he should place him in one place so that they will not kill him,he took him to Osogbo as a king.
That is why when they are doing Obokun festival Ataoja send 1 cow to Ibokun.
