�����Algeria will sign a mega-contract with Russia for the supply of weapons worth $ 12 billion - $ 17 billion. This was reported by the news portal Africa Intelligence on October 31.

This law directs the President of the United States to impose sanctions on persons who knowingly participate in significant transactions with counterparties that are part of or act in the interests or on behalf of the defense or intelligence

You got to wonder what Algeria wants to do with $12billion - $17 billion of weapons. It's not exactly the best use of a fifth to a quarter of their annual budget.

Morocco have been buying heavy weapons and Algeria don't want to be caught off guard esp after Libya war showed investing in military is good way to secure your land.

The Northern Africa countries (except Libya) are in different league.

Security is the most important for government. You can spend years building prosperity and very strong economy. A two day war can destroy the economy and prosperity that you spend years to build.

For a country to survive. It must be able to protect itself effectively from both internal and external enemy/enemies.

If you see the money Nigeria gov spend her military every year, you will be shock.
USA spend almost 1T on military yet they said no money to support free health, free study and they have one of the worst transportation system in the world.
The only countries that spend less on their military are those too small or neutral, even Brazil that is not under any treat spend mad money on her military.

Any powerful nation takes security very seriously, Nigeria military collapses was done by IBB, he downgraded Nigeria military.
