2023: Don't Vote For Mediocre - Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International Warns Against Money Politics, Vote-buying

The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, FGBMFI, Nigeria has warned against money politics and vote-buying, urges Nigerians to ensure that they exercise their franchise by voting during the elections.

The President, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, FGBMFI, Mr. Ifeanyi Odedo made this assertion at the Pre-Convention Media Briefing in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The 2022 National Convention which will scheduled between November 10 - 12, 2022 (Thursday - Saturday), in Abuja, at Chida Events Centre. It is anchored on the theme, “Thou Art My Battle Axe.” The theme was taken from Jeremiah 51:20

Mr. Odedo added that a nation rises or falls on the quality of its leadership. "You cannot vote for a mediocre and expect a first class performance".

He said, as the nation prepares for the polls, we underscore the critical role of elections as a mechanism for leadership recruitment. We therefore, urge Nigerians to ensure that we vote in the right calibre of people at the coming elections.
"As we pray for the help of God in all our nation-building efforts, we appeal to the government and election umpires to put all the necessary machinery in motion to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

"Never in the history of our nation have the citizens been concerned and sensitized with the need to get it right at the polls than 2023 General Elections. We abhor and warn against money politics and vote-buying this time around", he noted.

He commended the Federal Government for its efforts at fighting insecurity and working to bring socio-economic stability in the land.

The FGBMFI President appealed that no stone should be left unturned to ensure that we bring a permanent solution to the problems of insecurity confronting this nation and the economic hardship that Nigerians are facing today.

The group therefore sympathies to victims of kidnappings and insurgencies across the nation, expressed condolences to people affected by the ravaging flood in the nation. "We urge the government at all levels to do everything necessary to mitigate the hardship that victims are facing and to check future occurrences", he added.

At a period of serious economic stress, it is important that we share experiences and build capacity to empower members on how they could leverage available resources and various government safetynets for their economic well-being. This year’s event is unique because we shall be receiving in our midst, many of our members from various nations who would be attending the convention.

The programme which will include rallies, teachings, business roundtables and professional seminars has been selected from a wide field of ministers, businessmen, top public servants and professionals. They include Brother Gbile Akanni - a renowned preacher of the Gospel; Arc. Ifeanyi Odedo (my humble self) - an Architect and the National President of the Fellowship and Barr Boss Mustapha - the SGF, who is also the National Vice President of the Fellowship overseeing International Outreaches.

Others include: DIG Marvel Akpoyibo (Rtd), General Yakubu Usman - an ECOMOG veteran and Engr Chris Kammelu, Executive Director at the Federal Emergency Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA). Women speakers include Barr (Mrs) Ebere Agu, Pharm (Mrs) Caroline Oluwese, and Dame (Dr) Joan Orji.

FGBMFI was founded in 1951 and chartered in the year 1952 by an Armenian-American dairy farmer, Demos Shakarian (of late memory). He was inspired by God to set up a distinctive non-denominational body that would meet the unique spiritual needs of laymen. Our members therefore, come from different denominational backgrounds.

SpyeTV News report that this year marks the 70th Anniversary since the Fellowship’s first meeting in Clifton Cafeteria, downtown Los Angeles, USA, in October 1951 and its chartering in 1952. The FGBMFI arrived in Nigeria, when the first chapter was launched in Benin City in 1976, through the facilitation of Archbishop Benson Idahosa of blessed memory, of Church of God Mission.

From there it spread to Calabar, Port Harcourt, Aba, Enugu, Ibadan, Jos and Lagos. Full Gospel made landfalls in the North of Nigeria, through Gboko, Benue Staie in 1979; Kaduna in 1981; and Jos - 1985. In Abuja, FGBMFI was inaugurated in October 1987. These were the early hubs from where the light of the Fellowship spread across Nigeria within.
