The Federal Government says it has no plan to ban any social media platform but will not watch any medium to throw the country into chaos.

Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said this on Thursday while presenting the scorecard of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government from 2015 to 2022.

At the press conference in Abuja, the minister noted that the Federal Government is monitoring Twitter under the new ownership of Elon Musk.

Permit me to quickly address an issue that has elicited a lot of inquiries from the media in recent times. Many of your colleagues have called to ask us what will become of our agreement with Twitter in view of the change in its ownership,” the minister explained.

“Many have asked for our reaction following reports that there has been a spike in fake news, disinformation, and hate speech since the micro-blogging site changed ownership.

“Many have even asked us if another ban is in the offing. Let me say this: We are closely monitoring the evolving developments at Twitter. It has never been our intention to ban any social media platform or stifle free speech. Not at all. What happened in the case of Twitter is well-known to all.

“Twitter became a platform of choice for those who want to destabilize Nigeria using fake news, disinformation, and hate speech. No nation will allow any social media platform to plunge it into anarchy. Definitely not Nigeria.

“But we have continued to engage positively with the different social media platforms, including Facebook, Google (owners of YouTube), and Twitter. We have no intention of banning any social media platform again. But we will also not sit by and allow any platform whatsoever to throw our nation into crisis.”

Nigeria last year banned Twitter and claimed it was used to spread fake news and hate speech. The move, was, however, rescinded in January after the social media platform agreed to the government’s terms.

Banning Twitter or any Social Media platform would actually serve a death nail Tinubu’s fledgling ambition.

The youths would be further infuriated and the protest votes would be in leaps and bounds.

Please, APC, ban Twitter make we check something.

Buhari, Tinubu and APC are jokers, look at what they have turned governance to

They focus on the wrongest of issues and ignore the most important - This is the most useless government in the history of Nigeria

Social media have advantages but my dear brothers, if you don't want to be frustrated in life, please marry a woman who doesn't give two shits about social media.

If you marry a woman with heavy social media presence, you will live your life in frustration.
And you know what's worst? You will leave your inheritance (all you have worked for) for children fathered by another man.

Marry a virgin and see how blissful your home will be.

Twitter became a platform of choice for those who want to destabilize Nigeria using fake news, disinformation, and hate speech. No nation will allow any social media platform to plunge it into anarchy. Definitely not Nigeria.
We remembered 2 years ago during the END SARS perilous time.
Twitter made a statement in which they said they don't know President Buhari and which country he runs.

When you're blinded by hate and self imposed narrow mindedness, you will applaud someone who is clearly insulting you.
Most Nigerians who are sympathetic with Twitter back then don't know how much of an insult this comment is to even them.
They see Buhari as the target here but there are two elements in this insult.
Twitter says they don't know President Buhari.
But they didn't stop there.
They also added that they don't know the country he is leading. In other words they don't know Nigeria.

Twitter is brazenly saying they don't know Africas most populous nation and the country with the highest concentration of black people in the world. Twitter is brazenly saying they don't know a country where over 11 billion dollars of their revenue comes from with over 40 million subscribers.

Some years ago Pastor Chris Oyakhilome chose to use twitter to communicate some prayer information to Christ Embassy members worldwide.
Within few weeks Pastor Chris broke the records of having the most amount of followers within such a short period.

In their arrogance, Twitter called Pastor Chris' twitter account to question and described the followership as bogus.

Simply put, Twitter believed that nobody from a place like Nigeria had enough clout to garner such followership within such a short time - a feat that no Hollywood star was able to achieve,
Pastor Chris wasn't prepared for their drama, he pulled out of twitter and challenged his church tech people to design a platform that the church can use. That's what gave birth to Yookos.

Today Yookos is a formidable competitor with Twitter so much so that ex President Barack Obama acknowledged the giant strides made by the platform within such a short time after it was launched.

Eventually twitter confirmed Pastor Chris' account and "apologized" but it was too late.
Pastor Chris had moved his huge followership into Yookos.

Several years later Twitter is saying that they don't know the country that the same Pastor Chris comes from.
That's arrogance taken too far.

We said back then,
Any Nigerian who tolerates this insult is just a self hating sychophant.

Someone says you and your country don't matter and you're jubilating.
Is that not a serious sickness?

********************************************

On a lighter note,
We remembered what Kunle told his landlord at Ikorodu cheesy
*He told his landlord that his rent money for the year is trapped in his Twitter account*

*The landlord too is now abusing Buhari grin cheesy wink grin cheesy wink

Governments can not ban twitter successfully any more. With Starlink hosted WHM Services and VPN from Starlink systems which is outside local ISP controls there is nothing governments will do.

Only the poor will not be able to afford Starlink systems and subscription and fall into hands of local ISPs powered by Starlink, but if you buy Starlink directly from SpaceX, especially the nomad dish, then you are actually liberated from regulatory firewalls.

You don’t need any social media platform to throw the country into chaos. Your administration has shown extreme competence at doing that without the help of social media

Fools because they need urchins to spread lies and propaganda they won't block social media. Let APC make mistake and sneak their way back into power and anyone with a social media account will be treated as a criminal.
