Several regions of the Republic of Moldova were left without electricity on Tuesday evening due to Russian shelling in Ukraine, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu announced.

„Following Russia’s bombardment against the Ukrainian power system in the last hour, one of the power lines that provides electricity transmission for our country has disconnected in automatic mode (automatic load shedding by frequency). This led to massive power cuts throughout the country,” the Moldovan official announced.

Areas of Chisinau, as well as the districts of Cimislia, Balti, Straseni, Hincesti, Leova, Cahul, Falesti, Singerei, Ungheni, Briceni were affected, according to TV8.md.

He said that the lines in question were not damaged, but were automatically disconnected as a safety measure, and the state-owned Moldelectrica company is working to restore electricity connection.

And the supplier Premier Energy Distributiona announced that at 16:37 there was a damaged disconnection in the transmission system operated by IS Moldelectrica, affecting a large number of consumers. „We ask consumers to show understanding, as this is outside the management area of the distribution system operator, assuring them that we are making every effort to maintain continuous electricity supply.”
