I don’t think so unless those plenty of people are dictators that answer to nobody like Abacha. Abacha was not hiding his loot. Was using government jet to move it overseas.

There's a difference between freezing a country's assets(That of the Taliban was the country's assets) and 'discovering' looted funds from a sanctioned leader.

So, compare appropriately.

Individual assets are frozen as well. Abacha loots have been frozen each time they were discovered in banks around the world. That’s why Abacha family couldn’t have access to them. Abacha was not the first dictator whose personal assets were frozen in banks in America.

That’s from the US department of justice . They said they freeze Abacha’s assets. Not just discover

Abacha cleverly saved all this monies for Nigeria. If you know, you Know. If Abacha hadn't hid it, IMF/World bank would have taken it in 1994.

Abacha stopped the payment of loan servicing of over 2 billion dollar per annum to world bank/IMF. Not the loan itself o! Servicing of the loan. Abacha also stopped the floating and devaluation of the naira forthwith. Naira was steady at 20 naira to dollar through out his reign.
Now tell me if IMF had been allowed to collect of 2 billion per year is it not 10 billion lost? Abacha saved all that and hid 4 billion of the 10 billion IMF would have taken. Abacha is a hero. Go and confirm all these. It's on record.

For this heroic defiance against the IMF/World bank Abacha was demonized by the west. Opposition like Saro wiwa was sponsored to frustrate his government etc. Eventually the west sponsored his mysterious demise.

Abacha is a Nigerian hero and should be celebrated.

The most painful part about this loot is the countries he deposited it into invested the money, grew it and injected it into building their amenities. Despite the growth over the years, they’ve returned only the stated amount the dictator transferred over twenty-seven years ago. Imagine if they were forced to send the money plus all the interest grown over the years, we’d have enough capital to kickstart proper development.

You obviously do not understand what you responded to.

How was Abacha able to hide loots in the US when he was under sanctions all through his rule?

If you say he used others to launder the money, then the loots won't be registered in his name in the US, else it would have been detected instantly then.

This is not an issue of frozen asset, rather of 'hidden' but now 'discovered' loots.

I'm talking about the US and not 'everywhere in the world".

Loots not assets.

One thing you should note is that, Abacha actually didn't even borrow money from the west (Was anti - West), so how come he hid money in the same US?

My theory is more of the fact that some living people's loots (former or current politicians) are being tagged "Abacha's loots".

If I ask you what was our yearly budget during Abacha's reign compared to all that has been linked to his name, you'd struggle to come to terms with all these movies playing out.
