Over the course of the last few decades, hip-hop culture has undergone a considerable evolution. Every other facet of the music industry, with the exception of hip-hop culture, has been paying attention to significant social and political issues, such as mental health, yet mainstream media coverage has been absent.

In an article posted by HuffPost and cited by iHeartRadio, a science and digital culture writer by the name of Joey Florez, who is also the creator of the psychology website Mental Daily, provided a list of five well-known hip-hop musicians who have discussed their struggles with mental health.

According to an opinion piece published in The Standard newspaper in Zimbabwe, Florez cites in his narrative five well-known recording artists who have spoken out on the significance of mental health in the public realm. Both The Source magazine and The Standard newspaper are located in Zimbabwe. The list includes Kendrick Lamar, Vic Mensa, Charles Hamilton, YG, and Mark Battles.
