England and Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling will return to England’s base in Qatar on Friday.

The 28-year-old will return to the Three Lions base in Al Wakrah ahead of the quarter-final match with France on Saturday night, says the Football Association.

The forward will train with the rest of the England squad when he returns to Qatar in preparation for the crucial World Cup clash with the reigning world champions.

The FA said a statement: “Raheem Sterling will return to England’s World Cup base in Qatar. The Chelsea forward temporarily left to attend a family matter, but is now expected to rejoin the squad at Al Wakrah on Friday ahead of the quarter-final with France.”

Sterling departed Qatar on Sunday after armed intruders broke into his London home on Saturday.

The winger didn’t take part in England’s 3-0 victory over Senegal on Sunday night, with sources close to the player describing him as being “shaken”.

The Surrey police investigating the break-in at Sterling’s home said that have arrested two men on Wednesday over a separate incident.

The statement read: “Two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary last night in the Oxshott area. They are currently in custody.

“Following reports of suspicious activity around 6.40pm, a number of resources were deployed, including the dog unit and the police helicopter. Our colleagues from British Transport Police also provided assistance.

“At this time these arrests are not being linked to an ongoing investigation into a burglary which received significant media coverage over the weekend.

“That separate investigation remains ongoing and as of 12.00 on Wednesday, 7 December no arrests have been made in connection with that.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries into the circumstances and the investigation remains ongoing.”
