Earlier this morning, I read Farouk Kperogi’s column on how the “owners of Nigeria” are split between Obi and Atiku.

According to him, IBB, Abdusalami Abubakar and Aliyu Gusau seem to have thrown their weight behind Atiku while Obasanjo and TY Danjuma seem to have thrown their weight behind Obi.

According to him, Tinubu is their bête noire (his exact words).

But away from the cabal being split between Atiku and Obi, what I don’t understand is why Aliyu Gusau seems so powerful.

Others in the list have all been Heads of State, Obasanjo has even gone on to become an elected President. But I don’t know of the post Aliyu Gusau has held and how he became so powerful as to be a member, for a long time now, of an elitist cabal who choose and drop presidents as they wish.

With all their powers, they couldn't progress even to win party primaries. They also did not support Buhari and yet he won. It's normal to always want to have your man as a president. But none of these people can play God. It's interesting to see TY Danjuma and Obj supporting same candidate. They have not been seeing eye to eye for some years now.
