APC, PDP Disagree Over Who Inherits ‘Buhari’s 12 Million Northern Votes’ by bennybuhari: 9:09pm On Dec 21, 2022
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday traded words on what will happen to the 12 million guaranteed votes that President Muhammadu Buhari has consistently garnered in all his election outings from 2011 up to 2019, especially in the Northern parts of the country.

With Buhari not on the ballot in 2023, the major presidential candidates which include Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of APC, Atiku Abubakar of PDP, Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) are set to battle for votes in a fiercely contested exercise.

While the PDP said recent events in the North shows that Atiku is the most acceptable among the presidential candidates and will inherit Buhari’s 12 million votes, the APC said the votes will naturally go to Tinubu who is the candidate of Buhari’s party.

Daniel Bwala, a spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, said the love shown to Atiku in the Northern part of the country is an indication that he has inherited President Buhari’s 12 million votes.

In a post on his official Twitter handle, Bwala said the APC will be shocked by the outcome of the 2023 presidential election scheduled for February 25.

He wrote, “Anyone following the Katsina rally? Nigeria sai Atiku/Okowa. Let me state here that Atiku has legally inherited the 12 million voters of Buhari. If their eyes are not clear now, they would by February 2023. Atiku is coming 2023”.

Also speaking with Daily Independent, Kola Ologbondiyan, immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and spokesperson of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, said events in the North especially shows that Tinubu is not popular in the zone.

According to him, the Northerners are angry with Tinubu for claiming that he unilaterally made President Muhammadu Buhari realise his dream of ruling Nigeria in 2015 after three failed attempts between 2003 and 2011.

He said, “If you want to assess how popular Tinubu is in the North, just look at what has been happening since the campaigns started. He went to Kano State but he had nobody to receive him. Few days ago, he was in Kaduna where he blasphemed the religion of Islam which got a lot of Muslims angry.

“Tinubu did not build any structure in the North. He has also not built any relationship across Nigeria except the South- West.

“If you recall, Babachir Lawal, former SGF, said ahead of Tinubu’s campaign for president, he advised that they should go to the South-East but Tinubu said it was unnecessary as their votes are inconsequential.

“Is it in that South-East that Tinubu will go to campaign now and they will vote for him? Nigerians will teach him and the APC a lesson they will never forget soon”.

However, Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment and Director of Public Affairs and Spokesperson, Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, said President Buhari’s structures will deliver even more than 12 million votes for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

“You know that President Buhari belongs to a political party called the APC. Now Buhari in all his journey from 2003 to 2019 when he won those 12 million votes back-to-back, except the heavily rigged 2007 presidential election, had his own structure called the Buhari Support Group or the Buhari Support Organisation. This support group is different from the party and they are all over the country, especially the North.

“Apart from Buhari’s personal integrity and acceptability, it was this structures that helped him to deliver those 12 million votes. Now, whether we like it or not, some substantial part of that structures that are in the APC have been inherited by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“Mind you, it is the structures of a political party that deliver votes because the local people are going to listen to their local representatives as to who to vote for.

“Don’t forget that the South- West never voted for Buhari until 2015. Who did they listen to by voting for Buhari? They listened to Asiwaju. The Asiwaju Bola Tinubu structures that delivered the South-West votes to Buhari in 2015 is still intact. This is payback time. It is the same Buhari structures as a payback time that are working for Asiwaju.

“This is added to the fact that Asiwaju has his own personal friends in the North. So we are looking at something beyond the 12 million votes in the North and I’m saying this very seriously. I want to say that by the time the results come out, Nigerians will understand the science of politics and the science of election”.

Stop trying to rope in Tinubu to this childish engagement.

What is special about Buhari's 12million votes? The same CPC votes that couldn't win him an election until APC structure (which includes ANPP, ACN) in conjunction with Tinubu's vast political influence in South-west came to his rescue.

People talking about Buhari's 12million votes are oblivious of the fact that it doesnt make up a winning structure only.

It is getting stale and i am getting tired of the argument.

Actually Buhari rescued Tinubu from being a local champion and rescued yorubas from regional politics. Why didn't Tinubu contest while Buhari was contesting let's see the vote he could get? He wants to inherit another person vote. No wonder you people are mocking Obi who is building his own vote instead of looking for someone's vote to inherit

Buhari Rescued Tinubu? How?

Tinubu has never lost an Election prior to 2015. Buhari lost thrice. He even cried on a National TV.. So what are you saying?

Even in the strong days of OBJ, spearheaded by OBJ. Tinubu stood his ground. Holding the south-west down with his influence and political might. Where was buhari then?

Who or what is ANAP?

Delusional

You guys should be more concerned about getting a third position in this election because with the way things are going, rejected votes may outnumbered Pandora's votes.

With the game these Northerners are playing if you believe Tinubu will defeat Atiku and Kwankwaso in the north then I guess most of you are just gullible. As it stands Tinubu can only boast of South west.

Lagos votes is hugely divided and same as Oyo/Osun. And South west from inception don't give anyone block vote. I really wonder where Tinubu's votes will come from.

South South and Southeast have never bought anything Tinubu is selling.

Your eyes go clear

Hope Atiku is winning Zamfara, Borno, yobe, Kwara, kogi, Abuja, Nasarawa, Niger.......

All in the north faaaa.... Unna eyes go clear.

Atiku Abubakar is a force to reckon with in the north no doubt and that is because he has structure on ground.

But mentioning north is vague because north does not start and end in North East and West. Even in those two regions, you can't bet it that Jagaban won't get 30% overall.

What about north Central which has two Yoruba speaking states, Kwara and kogi

Niger State has Nupe and considering their proximity to Yoruba's Kwara, you know naa.
Only Niger north might be split, an area that has Gbayi and they will not even vote Atiku, it's between Asiwaju and Obi. Kotangora is sealed entirely for the Jagaban.

Battle ground is Nasarawa, Abuja, plateau and benue, all in North Central.

Atiku and Tinubu have assumed positions in the country, and they are still stubborn political grasshoppers and do not want to relinquish power to the youths.

Nigeria can regain her political problem if all these old brigades are pushed out of the system. Nigerians will never forgive themselves in 2023 if they make the costly mistake of retaining these old brigades..."
