Anambra Deputy Gov Dismantles Roadblock Set Up By Soldiers Over Traffic (Video)

Anambra Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim, has ordered the dismantling of a roadblock set up by soldiers in the state.

The incident happened on Christmas Eve when the roadblock manned by the soldiers caused long traffic on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, causing inconveniences to road users who were travelling home for the Christmas holiday.

A video circulating online showed when the deputy governor alighted from his vehicle after witnessing the long traffic, to confront the soldiers, while ordering his security men to dismantle the roadblock for all road users to pass by.

It is possible for the soldiers to do their jobs and for traffic to move smoothly. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Economists are naturally fond of inventing all kinds of meaningless statistics. But we should pay attention when they talk about value, time and productivity.

This country loses trillions every year because our culture in general doesn't value time. And a culture that doesn't value time will always be a low productivity culture.

Those soldiers don't care about the time that motorists lose on the road. They just don't care. Its not their problem. After all, they are providing 'sekoority'. Just listen to the goon making excuses in the clip.

In the North, you'll hardly see road blocks but in the South East, you'll see different security agents manning road blocks thus causing hardship to those plying the roads. For eg, from Abuja to Lafia, you won't see road blocks but you'll see police vehicles by the side of the road securing the road; likewise Abuja to Kaduna. If the aim of those security agents in the East is not extortion, then they should be able to contain insecurity and stop the nonsense sit at home on Mondays..
