JTF Storms Creeks, Kills 15 Militants The Military Joint Task Force (JTF) operating in Rivers State yesterday morning raided cultists hide outs in the creeks of the state, killing 15 of them in the process. The flash point was Tombia, in Degema Local Government Area, said to be the haven of the cultists. This is the first time the JTF will go into the creeks in pursuit of the cultists who fought against it in Port Harcourt for nearly two weeks. The Public Relations Officer of the JTF, Major Sagir Musa who confirmed the raid refused to comment on casualty figures. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=87246 |

A bold step but are they sure it's in the right direction ? Lets hope there are no reprisal attacks that may cost the JTF a lot more casualties |

tundewoods: What better option is there than to take the war to the turf of the criminals? Should they wait till they strike again? NO! It's not really their fault, they were only capitalising on our newly found democracy. Where were they when Abacha and co were ruling? Imagine a bunch of criminals calling themselves militants in a country where a legitimate government exist! The mere fact that they steal crude is a big crime, talk less of having an armed army. If I have the way, I would bring in more soldiers from the 82 division, Enugu, the Air unit from Benin and Naval support from Calabar and Warri. Let us see where they will hide. Bunch of criminals! Just imagine the number of civilians they have killed - innocents souls for that matter. They have completely jeopardise the legitimate fight of the Niger Delta. |

Seun: Please let's not rejoice over this. How can police kill 15 people just like that. That is so barbaric. what happened to indictments, trials, convictions and punishments. How do we know those killed are guilty of any crimes since they were never tried. |
Re: War Against Cultists In Rivers State by Egavlas(m): 8:30am On Aug 27, 2007 |
@osisi Its pretty obvious that you are not in this country. Did you say indictments, trials, convictions? These criminal groups have judged, indicted and convicted innocent and law abiding citizens of niger delta and by extension, Nigeria. They have carried out heinous crimes against this country and its people by killing innocent people and sabotaging the economy. They are fighting because their oil bunkering is no more being allowed by government. In the guise of fighting for Niger-delta emancipation(Mend), they engage in all manner of illegal activities. No government must allow this. They must all be wiped out so that this nation does not degenerate to an Iraq or darfur. Its simply amazing when I read comments like this. No responsible government will sit and watch such carnage by a number of armed criminals. If you have a relation or anyone that has come across these evil criminals, you would not be saying what you are saying. |

Let them flush those criminals. I heard someone did say they criminals are training. Did they not train before going to their criminal acts? Let them train and come out, they will all be wiped out. They used to launch guerrilla attacks in the past base on information. Once they are informed of the military position, they will attack, but now, the 82 division from Enugu will not give them that chance of getting any information. They are criminals. I’m jubilating that the government is going to wipe them out. |

It is good that the government is dealing with them now. But the story line is Rivers state government knows about it. Any cult war that is happening in Rivers state is caused by the government. The government knows its origin and they will be at a better position to stop. For the lives of innocent citizens, i beg the Rivers state government to settle the scores among themselves so that this ugly incidents will not be rising its head. If They reach to an agreement(govt) with those bandits/cltists, they should go and settle it and stop endangering the lives of innocent people. I commend the military. |

Well it is due to the neglect of the government, that such people are around, but I think the Government has no choice but to send in the Task force. |

who the hell r u this so called BAANI.for ur information the supreme vikings confraternity has nothing to do with the militant activities in rivers state.being a so called militant is a freedom of choice and not a vikintgtical criteria.watch ur own mouth before them sink one ship inside ur smelling mouth.its true that the svc is very popular in the higher institutions of rivers state, the militant activities are believed to be controled and masterminded by street gangs, political and community hirachy in rivers state. |
