LAGOS SHOOTING INCIDENCE: IGP MEETS, PARTNERS GOV SANWO-OLU ON SPEEDY ACTION, BETTER POLICE/CITIZENS’ RELATIONSHIP

Promises Due Diligence in Investigation

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, met with the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, today Thursday 29th December, 2022, at about 1050hrs to discuss amongst other things, possible avenue to achieve speedy justice for the victims of the recent shooting incidents in the state.

The IGP while extending his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, reassured that the cases would be meticulously pursued until deserved justice is served, stressed that the Force is working with the Attorney-General of Lagos State to ensure that the offenders are diligently prosecuted in Courts of competent jurisdiction to serve as a deterrence to others.

In his response, the Governor promised to support the Police in making sure that justice is served in the extant case and to collaborate with the Police on advocacy programmes to educate the citizenry on understanding and respecting the laws of the land for an improved relationship with the Police. He similarly stressed that his administration will partner with the Police to carry out refresher courses, training, and retraining, and other evaluation processes for police officers in all facets of policing duties.

Governor Sanwo-Olu equally emphasized the need to provide some equipment like body cameras, non-lethal weapons, etc., to curb excessive use of powers and boost good police/citizens relationships.

The Inspector-General of Police therefore charged all officers to imbibe absolute respect for rule of law and the fundamental rights of all persons, which is the crux and fulcrum of policing services even as he urged members of the public to cooperate with police officers for seamless collaborative efforts to stamp out crimes and criminality in the Nigerian society.

Next, you will go to meet God.
Politicians say the same thing every now and then. Politicians not interested in the root of the shootings.
Only in Nigeria, Police and army shoot innocent citizens now and then.
Why? Polytechnic country is a ticket to disaster. Oyibo don't have Polyecthnic countries but created polyethnic countries in Africa, worse, Nigeria, to fail.
A policeman or soldier from the NE for example, can easily kill in Lagos, knowing full well that his blood relative is not likely to be there.

Media stunt. Not tackle the root of the problem.
Use a dead woman to attract political public sympathy.
But if Yoruba majority say they want Oduduwa Republic out of dysfunctional Nigeria, this governor will tell them pulling diverse ethnic groups in one Nigeria is a blessing to mankind. Oyibo does not tolerate multi ethnic groups in one country in their Europe.

Nigeria is not working for any body. So the IG couldn't come down to Lagos to address his officers? After two killings in the space of two weeks

We have too much big men occupying servant positions.

This can't continue

The police man should be sentenced to life imprisonment...No bail whatsoever, till the both families and husband of the deceased decide to allow FG and the NPF have him released.

How was the Bamise Case swept under the carpet?

Has the killer not been charged to court? Are you not following the case, the man was even in court earlier this month.

Murder cases even in America can take many months, even a year before being concluded.

The Governor has no power to tell the judiciary what to do.

Fortunately or unfortunately we don't live in the jungle, at least I don't think so.

It is so shameful and disgraceful that it will take the extra judicial killing of a 'big man' for the government to shake body.
it is almost the case. If the case is sensational and the person involve is not wealthy, the government and the police will swing into action...

Though you should know the police force sometimes make outside settlement in cases that didn't trend on social media, as long as the people have compelling evidence. This is among the reason they don't treat erring policemen with kid gloves.

A lot of this guys in blacks are die hard sadist. How do you just pull a trigger on an armless persons you ought to be protecting, if not under the influence of narcotics. In any case of mass violent protest or riot, the first point of resort for safety should be army barracks or any police formation around. Unfortunately the reverse is usually the case, as the protector usually end up as the killer. But how did our police force degenerate to this ignoble point? Though not all, but how many good ones are left? The figure seems so very tiny and skeletal.

No need for too many meetings.

The facts are:

The NPF are the most untrained, most corrupt, very unprofessional, and criminal minded group of any organization in the world.

Some solutions for the next administration from my opinion are:

Be ready to fire most of the current day officials, many of them are not qualified to even be a restaurant security staff. Many of them now are really olodos in a condensed manner. So be ready to fire many of them and rehire at least people that can be trained and educated. At least they should have been through a secondary school. and know the basics knowledge on basic subjects.

Increase their pay and trainings, trainings on law, training on conflict de-escalation, training on conflict containment; trainings on community relations (even as they are routinely rotating to different areas and communities); team work training, and also new detectives trainings.

All the npf need to be equipped with communication gadgets, most of their cars need to be padded, and they need to all be fingerprinted

Nigeria needs to get to the forensic age of crime fighting.

Continued training on everything necessary

There are many more programs that the leaders can implement, is just that Nigeria can be so backward, just like running backwards with speed and expecting progress, which is a serious peoples game.

Why does Sanwo need to meet IG because of a killing when many people are killed everyday in the country. This is how he kept pandering to the endsartist then until they nearly messed the state up. Sanwo has not learnt anything from the last Endsars episode.
