Oga, the risk in Farming is much, especially if this is your first time of venturing into it. Before the gains can come in will be up from 3 years. I was also in your shoes in 2019. Please if the resources are scares, relocate and come back later to invest in the farm. Farming requires good knowledge, experience and better management practice (all these culminate to more money and time).

If the resources are there, I will encourage you to take both.

Farming takes time for you to have return on investment.

There is risk in nearly everything that happens in Nigeria, as far as you are not Dangote.
That one bought his way into everything. So that is the thing.

Let him keep the farm and let his family be settled thru the farm, then he relocates abroad and does his business, make e no loose from 2 ends.

I think that one should be his private concern. The part you should know about is the relocate or continue in his farming project.
Other things should not be your business as it stands.
Good day.

Lol. Anybody who wants to relocate to the states or Canada should be free to go without considering the opportunity cost. But if you are planning on going to Eastern Europe, Italy, spain and you think that you are abroad, you are sillily wasting your time. So when i ask, what country you want to go to, there is every reason to ask as there is a hoooooge difference.

Hello Nairalander,

I need your suggestion and advice because I just acquired 7 hectares of land for plantain farming in ekiti which will be planted by February next year, the place is secured and free from bandits or herdsmen but everybody is telling me to do relocation instead of farming even though I’ve invested up to 4 million naira into this project because I love Agric….

Please which one is the best advice for me right now as I know how I can make it big by planting up to 10,000 suckers of plantain on this land and get the return in a year, is there market for large production of plantain?

Mods please help me to push this to front page as this is my only option of surviving

Do you want to be an employer of labour where you pay people or do you want to travel and do hourly wages and live off credit card ?

You have an opportunity to be an employer .
You can produce plantain products and add value

My brother abroad no be beans, invest in agriculture. Dangote didn't get rich by going abroad. You will never be rich in abroad cuz all the money you make you end up giving it back because of beans.

There is something you are missing. Not everyone wants to bare few things in general public (I am one of them).
You do not ask questions to people as u like, no more no less. If he is going anywhere , i believe he has internet to read, he should know where he should be asking questions from.

This is what i am explaining to you. Advice him based on the answers he needs. Forget the rest.

Oga , Nigeria is a difficult country. Do you clearly understand Dangote decides market prices now? Do you clearly understand, he is the only one with export / patent rights in a country of about 200 million people? Do you clearly understand as a southerner you cannot easily get financial facilities easily from bank of industry if you are not a northerner? Are you very aware Nigeria has been in a civil war since 2002 since the insurgence of Boko Haram?

Do you know Zimbabweans , South africans , Kenyans with farm lands have all left Nigeria? If it were that simple, if Nigeria was as rosy as you think, do you think we won't all be rich?
Dont go about advicing people wrongly. He should not put his eggs in one basket.

You don't need any advise again. You have taken a good step after investing 4million naira as mentioned.

If you love agric as you mentioned. Continue with your farm with passion and try planting some annual crops too.

Good luck... I love plantain so make sure you send me some bunch after harvest

Please don't relocate at all, get an expart in plantain plantation that will manage your farm and plant your plantain, please monitor your farm by your self don't rely on your farm manager.

After watching this video (screenshot), it is not only Herdsman, Bandits and Cows that destroy farmlands. If this Dog wasn't caught on video destroying Farmlands, the wrong people would have been accused.

7 hectares is a large parcel of land. There's a lot you can do there; cattle ranching, palm oil plantation, crop farming and lots more. Properly landscape the area and put your vision to action, you'll reap far more better than relocating abroad. You have the passion and have invested good money in it, don't let them go to waste.

I usually read and pass. If you are skilled and have a plan for your japa. Its better to japa. If you dont have any aim and just want to japa for japa-ing sake.. better to remain.

I acquired a land a while ago too (500 acres) and never wanted to japa. Invested heavily and was dedicated to the cause.
Until i barely escaped been kidnapped. It was right there and then i knew its time to leave Nigeria.

I have japa-ed and i never regretted it for once.

My dear no place like home, please continue with the farming, this is also my plan for the year going into Agriculture as my 3rd source of income. There is opportunities to grow here afterward you can then think of relocating while you have capable people managing the farm business. Coming in to the country once in a while will not be an issue for you cause you will atleast have the means. I will suggest you invest here as a source of plan B then relocate later when you have stabilize your business. But then Let God direct you which is very key. This is my personal opinion and advice. All the best
