Yes Murtala coup killed leaders from the south including head of state, Ironsi, and military Governor of the West Fajuyi, and even made an attempt on Ojukwu, while touching nobody from his North West

Dimkas coup killed the head of state, military Governor of Kwara, while touching nobody from his middle belt. Buhari's coup arrested Southern political leaders and detained them for months while leaving his Fulani brothers like Shagari to go home without a scratch

Thats the nature of coup in Nigeria, officers from a particular section of the country gather to plan and execute coup. When Oladipo Diya was planning his own, it was his Western brothers like Generals Adisa and Olarewaju he called in, before it was nipped in the bud. Some coups will be bloody, some will be bloodless. Northerners generally plotted that coup and the pattern of killings reflected an objective of revenge killing of Igbos alongside the sparing of Northerners just like Igbos killed mostly Northerners and spared their own brothers in the first coup.
