Sokoto Governor Rides Tricycle On Surprise Hospital Inspection (Photos)

The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, on Monday, paid an unscheduled visit to the Sokoto Specialist Hospital to ascertain the quality of services provided by the hospital, IGBERETV reports.

Malam Abubakar Bawa, the Press Secretary to the governor, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Sokoto. Bawa said that the governor’s decision to visit the health facility unannounced followed the series of concerns raised by citizens of the state over the poor health service delivery at the hospital.

The press secretary added that other concerns that made the governor to visit the hospital were the need to have a first-hand assessment of its dilapidated structures, erratic power supply, dearth of manpower and lack of functional medical equipment, among others.

According to him, Aliyu visited the hospital in a tricycle in order to get first-hand information from its workers.

“I was surprised with what I saw during my visit to the hospital which lasted for four hours; it afforded me the opportunity to see things for myself", [/b]Bawa's statement quoted the governor as saying.

[b]“Patients and their relatives are subjected to all kinds of hazardous situations owing to dirty environment and lack of functional equipment in the medical facility.

“Patients’ relatives rely solely on alternative sources of power due to erratic electricity supply in the hospital.

“I have directed the management of the hospital to see me for further discussions on how to remedy the ugly situation,” Bawa further quoted the governor as saying.

Coincidentally i am at a govt hospital with my wife who is receiving treatment. The spate of structural dilapidation is alarming. Some of the workers discharges their job with so glaring negligence you will be amazed, especially the nurses. Some are however very lovely and very ready to help.

Wifey was billed for a surgery past Monday, cos of the negligence on the part of a nurse, the surgery have been postponed till next week Monday. Now we have to spend another 7 days at the hospital cos of one foolish nurse.

SEVICOM is a complaint service you need to reach if you have a complaint, even that does not work. I have spent over 1.5m in preparation for this surgery just to be told it won’t happen again till Monday. I’m so gutted no body to complain to. It’s crazy in this country. The rot is everywhere in Nigeria not just Sokoto state.

Rubbish. Nothing but self deceit and eye service. Who in this country can say that he/she does not know the condition of public hospitals and other infrastructures. How does his mode of transportation to the hospital matter? What matters is that he gets to work and fix infrastructures. In the end looting of public funds will remain the order of the day, with plenty of wasted years and little work.

The major thing is that his visit should bring immediate transformation to the hospital.
I observe that there was no Doctor on duty for the night Duty to attend to the Governor. Hr needs to investigate and sanction such Doctors.

The level of infrastructural decay owing to years of neglect in our hospitals is quite appalling, you go to hospitals for treatment and get infected with other diseases. The North is mostly affected, there has to be a drastic effort by Government at all levels for a turnaround maintenance of our hospitals.

So for the four hours that he stayed there monitoring the situation of things at that hospital, he didn't still figure out what to do and how to remedy the situation

These newly elected political office holders should stop these circuses. The next governor of this state will do same in 4/8 years time
