On January 17, 2023, Open Doors, an organisation that monitors Christian persecution across the globe released its World Watch List for 2023. The jarring report notes that Nigeria accounted for 89 per cent of Christians that were martyred worldwide. To put it another way, 89 out of every 100 Christians that were killed for their faith across the world came from Nigeria.

Violence against Christians … is most extreme in Nigeria where militants from the Fulani, Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and others conduct raids on Christian communities, killing, maiming, raping and kidnapping for ransom or sexual slavery.

This year has also seen this violence spill over into the Christian-majority south of the nation. … Nigeria’s government continues to deny this is religious persecution, so violations of Christians' rights are carried out with impunity.

These are not just statistics but real people with real lives feeling real pain. The Church is urged to embrace more empathy and prayer for those facing these dangers every single day. The Nigerian Government, the entire political class and the primary profiteers of this religious pogrom against Christians have blood on their hands. The Lord in Heaven has heard the cries of the innocent and has since started to mete out severe Judgment on these Wicked leaders and murderers. You will NOT escape hell.
