APC YOUTH CAUCUS, AKWA IBOM NORTH WEST SENATORIAL DISTRICT

PRESS STATEMENT

SENATOR GODSWILL AKPABIO'S UNRULINESS THREATENS RECONCILIATION, COHESION AND UNITY IN OUR PARTY AHEAD OF GENERAL ELECTIONS

Whereas the recent Supreme Court judgement of Friday January 20, 2023, affirming the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Godswill Akpabio as candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District election billed for February 25 is a welcome development for our party, we are concerned with the lack of restraint displayed by the distinguished senator considering his latest derisive, repugnant and uncouth comments which threatens nascent reconcilation and unity of the party ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

We understand that the senator is in a celebratory mood, but this does not excuse his unguarded comment made via a recent post by his half-witted cocaine sniffing media handler, Michael Matthew, against party stalwarts, who are toiling to save the party from disintegration. Akpabio has refused to exercise restraint and warn his attack dogs to avoid inciting posts capable of truncating party cohesion at this critical period when we need all interests to merge and focus on winning the State for our presidential candidate, Ashiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, in particular and the All Progressives Congress, APC as a whole.

Barley a month before election commences, we had expected that Senator Akpabio, as the National Vice Chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, to build on the foundation of peace and reconciliation recently laid by initiative of the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Okon Umana, and to rally all stalwarts, members and supporters of the party towards overall victory of the party. Unfortunately, this is not on his agenda. Akpabio is more concerned with putting his name on the ballot than winning an election he does not stand a chance in.

We, therefore reject Akpabio empty threats against our brothers from Ibibio within the party. There is no room in the APC for ethnicity and parochial segregation. Lest we forget, Akpabio's inordinate inert political power mongering (quoting our political leader, Atuekong Don Etiebet), divisive tendencies and abhorrence for electoral regulations and procedure are solely responsible for the current predicament facing Akwa Ibom State APC. Yet, he continues to undermine the party with silly comments, illogical slurs and antics against his perceived opponents.

Since 2018, when Akpabio slithered into the party, our chance of winning at general elections nose dived from worse to worst. His attempts to balkanize the party and keep it disunited and weak serves only his selfish gain. When he should be leading the charge to drive the party to victory, he chooses to create problems that fuel infighting. We are aware of the blackmails, lies and posturing he employs to maintain his position, but a day of reckoning approaches and we will once again publicly reject him at the polls.

Whatever means he used to make his way into the Presidential Campaign Council, aiming to use such influence to further his self-interest, we will make the world to see that Akpabio's supposed prowess is grossly overated. No true Annang man or woman behaves with such cunning and deceit as Akpabio without repercussion. Since he did not learn his lesson in 2019, but lied himself up the national party hierarchy without genuine interest for the overall good of the party, we will put him where he belongs permanently - the dustbin of Akwa Ibom North West political history.

As such, let it be succinctly clear that as youths of Abak 5, we have made an all binding resolution to produce the next senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District. Subsequently, much as we are totally committed to working tirelessly for the success of our presidential, governorship and other candidates at the polls, we will not be hoodwinked again under any guise by Senator Godswill Akpabio - a serial liar and covenant breaker, to relinquish our rightful opportunity to produce a senatorial representative in this 2023 senatorial election.

Akpabio is a good politician and I hope he gets his games right....

He did excellently for his people as s governor...

He's fast growing old and should find time to retire into an elder statesman..... To help the young ones grow into a fruitful political atmosphere.
