Today I reviewed 949 resumes for a job I posted less than 24 hours ago.

This is for an entry level role so I was expecting an influx of applications but this was on another level. And after viewing all kinds of resumes I have some tips to all the college grads out there applying for roles that I wish someone would have told me way back when!

1) Have a goal or objective and put it at the top. Especially for entry level roles it's so nice when someone clearly states "I have 2 years of experience in this, that, and the other. I am looking for a role where I can X."

2) Make your resume easy to read - Example - bolding important words or your tech stack (please don't bold your entire resume). Think about colors, check your spelling, and how large (or small) your font is. View your PDF before you submit it ... I can't tell you how many resumes were 3 pages because page 2 was 95% blank.
A real person is going to be reading this so do you your best to make it a great representation of you.

3) If you are applying to technical roles put your technical skills near the top. And try not include things like "team work, problem solver" in the same sentence. While those are important give them a category of their own because I want to know if you know SQL and Tableau those are the words I'm looking for.

And finally the last tip - send a message to the Recruiter on LinkedIn that you're excited about the role. I've received over 20 messages from applicants for this role. That means 20 people out of 949 took a minute to send me a note - which I appreciate them doing because they're excited about the role.

I thought as much too. Where most companies and HRs use ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to sort out resumes with key skills. The OP is still in 20th century.

You forgot the part that most companies now use ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to sort resumes. Forgive me but if you still use the manual method to check resumes, it will wear you out soon.
