When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, it expected to takeover the country in a number of days and be considered liberators and welcomed with open arms.

Alas, the opposite was the case! The Russian army lacked discipline and coordination. The underdog Ukraine was generously supplied with western arsenal far superior to Russia's which still had lots of outdated tanks and other weapons.

Ukraine fought back hard and dealt the Russians a bloody nose. There was ecstacy from those who supported Ukraine while Russia's supporters lived in denial that Russia was held down, losing thousands of men and even losing territory.

However, the tide is now in Russia's favor. The attack on Ukrainian infrastructure over the past 2 months seems to have destroyed the morale of its people. To be without power in bitter winter months seems to have zapped lots of their energy.

Also, Putin is putting his all to ensure victory. Russia is amassing 700,000 troops for a new offensive. This is a strong message to Ukraine.

Worse, Russia is firing 60,000 shells daily while Ukraine is only replying with 6,000. The West, no matter how generous, lack the ability to send in as much weapons needed due to a depletion in their arsenal due to this war.

In addition, after the end of the Iraq and Afghan war , weapon manufacturers shutdown production lines due to reduced demand. Putting them back to full production will take time

At this juncture,it would be prudent for Zelensky to throw in the towel, but that's not going to happen anytime soon. A peace deal would mean him having to cede territory to Russia which he considers taboo.

The West seems determined to prolong this war so as to discourage Russia from embarking on another such adventure in future. It is also a message to China that were it to invade Taiwan, America and its allies would ensure that it gets bogged down there, like Russia is now in Ukraine.

The West must ensure this war ends now and lose some face. Any Russian win is a pyrrhic victory. Any victory has come at great cost to the Russian economy, now fettered with sanctions. It would take decades for it to recover. Russia's saving grace was that it's economy was market oriented unlike its sanction soaked ally Iran which is statist.

Anyway, these are the Last Days and events such as these should not come as a surprise

Wake up from the dream . Russia can decimate Ukraine but at what cost? They cannot be planning a 700k personnel invasion because there will be a lot of casualties.

At this juncture, I doubt Putin send.

He has to win this war no matter the cost. This was the same strategy the former Angolan president Dos Santos used in crushing the rebel leader Jonas Savimbi in the 1990s.

Zelensky is not politically astute. Conceding territory to Russia is the lesser of two evils at this point. America's hardline position is reckless as its Ukrainians paying the price.

What factors changed your mind? You were telling me putin disgraced himself and should seek peace to save face. Ukraine will have to do more than cede territory. The Russians will install their puppet government, limit their military size and make sure they can't have any future dealing with NATO. The sanctions will hurt but the west will Reintegrate Russia back into the fold economically if Henry Kissenger is trustworthy.

I am always ready to change views. Nothing is ever cast in stone.

Initially Russia was losing the war. It got bogged down but with Putin's present fierce determination to win this war at all cost. amassing as much arsenal and troops as possible, Ukraine stands little chance. Also, what the West is offering in terms of weapons is simply too small compared to what Putin is amassing.

The scenario you painted above is extremely scary. This may just prolong the war as the West won't initially cave in to such demands. The initially terms of ceding the 5 Russian majority areas would be much fairer now. Sadly Biden, won't accept any terms and yet won't or can't provide enough weapons to turn the tide in Ukraine's favor.

The West is worried that were it to give in to Putin, what stops China from invading that flea, Taiwan? This possibility of that happening any time soon seems real. Xi Jinping is the most hard-line of Chinese rulers since Chairman Mao. Also, a war and victory over Taiwan will help turn heads away from the troubles back home such as the Wuhan virus crisis or the power blackouts in China.

It is best the West rushes now to make a deal fast with Putin, rather than he force them to eat humble pie. A nuclear strike from him can't be ruled out at this stage if the West don't "mind their damn business". America may not be capable of stopping all the nukes that will head its way. US independent analyst have suggested Russia may go that route if bogged down again.
