BREAKING! Senate Extends Collection Of Old Notes To June! by MizCharm: 2:18am On Jan 29, 2023
A few hours ago, the members of the nigerian senate sat and passed a resolution to extend the collection of old naira notes by the Central Bank. The end date for the collection of old naira notes by banks had originally been set for the 31st of January 2023. But as the deadline draws near, the new naira notes seem not readily available, even as politicians are busy trying all they can to get access to large amounts of the new notes for election rigging purposes.
Atiku, the presidential candidate for the PDP has also come out with an emotional appeal to the Cental Bank governor to extend the deadline, citing the concern for suffering nigerians as a reason. It is of note that his VP, Okowa had earlier today recieved the go ahead from the delta state house of assembly to borrow trillions of naira, even while currently indebted and owing civil servants in the state.

It remains to be seen whether this resolution by the senate will sway the CBN governor, Emefiele and his boss, Buhari into doing what the politicians want.

They’re all citing "the suffering of the masses" as an excuse to shift the deadline for new Naira notes till after the elections, but don’t remember the suffering of the same masses as a result of acute fuel shortages since last year! Rubber stamp assembly. grin

I believe its a legitimate concern, if the rural cant access bank for transfer we will see a lot of people all of a sudden be dropped into poverty.

I understand the new naira policy was created to curb corruption and vote buying but its a move that can have unwanted side effects.

Rural areas are regarded as abodes of superstition, poverty, lethargy, low income and low productivity. No one is dropping into poverty there, they’re already poor! The stockpiling of cash is not a practice of rural dwellers either, but the political class in the urban centers who are crying now because they’re the ones mostly affected by the policy. The pros far outweigh the cons if it’ll at the very least help to ensure credible elections in the coming polls.

Naira redesign was targeted at 3 persons

Obi
Tinubu
and atiku

Nigerians you can now see how they run the affairs of Nigeria!

Buhari and emefiele sat down and discussed on how to use billions of Naira to change the color of the old notes to something that looks more inferior.

This is just personal beef and 200 million Nigerians are like humans sitting in a prison yard.

In this life, know that there is nothing like christians and moslems, shittes and sunnis, catholics and protestants, Yorubas and Igbos, blacks and whites. There is only the RICH/POWERFUL and the POOR/MIDDLE CLASS.

Know this and know peace.

If they truly are concerned about the masses, they should first make sure there is enough petrol at an affordable price before they talk about the currency

The only issue is that our looting law makers have not bn able to take their loot to the bank to avoid exposure.
And their last move is to cancel this move in order to continue their business as usual using the masses will suffer as a cover up.

No amount of extension will placate Nigerians! They will still wait till last minute!

Foolish Nigerians are busy paying 20 to 25% extra charge just to collect #5000 new note from POS operators. Money that they will still spend buying breakfast and other stuff in one day! Then return to pay another 20%! Keep encouraging black market for new notes!

Why do you want to hold on to cash so much? People should force themselves to go cashless! I've been doing transfers of #500 and #1000 since Friday, world did not end. Will be transferring 5k to the shop near me today, so that I can pick what I want without bothering myself about cash.

The people doing cashless in the pictures below are not aliens, they are your local day-to-day vendors!

Senate doesn't have the power to override such monetary policy.
Buhari decision is final
Nigeria Senate that has never sat to meet in the mid night, all of a sudden met in the middle of the night to sit because their relection bid is being thwarted over the Naira redesign
