Closing of eyes is just a way of avoiding distraction.

Our parents told us many lies back then to guide us.

Maybe our pastors are also ‘lying’ to us to ‘guide us’?

Mine , my mum told me then that whenever we open our eyes during prayers, that evil spirits that left people will enter your body if you open your eyes

One day, I needed to pay a certain fee, so, I came all the way from children church to adult church. There was an intense prayer session going on. I became afraid as there was no way to go in with my eyes closed. I peered and looked (maybe I will see the angel and dodge him) but, I didn't see anything. I rushed in, located my mum and she opened her purse to give me the money. She also asked me a few questions. She did all these with her eyes wide opened!! Lo and behold, nothing happened to her eyes and my eyes. I was even more surprised when I saw the pastor with his eyes wide open while praying and leading prayers!!! . Abomination!! I waited in vain for the angel to strike, nothing happened. I was so disappointed and confused.

I started opening my eyes during prayers to see what will happen. Nothing. The problem now was, there was no way to tell mummy of my discovery without telling her that I now open my eyes during prayers. My position was, I was either deceived or the angel forgot our church.

Over 20 years ago and still smile any time I remember. . I'm not a consistent church goer these days tho....

When eyes are open you see a world referred to in ancient times as the world of maya, matter, mother the world of illusion.
Open eyes see the world of make believe, the world where tiny people have grouped together to form everything you see, cause the things you see in the world of maya eventually return to thier true nature.

True nature being the world you see in your mind when your eyes are closed , meaning your mind is far closer to reality when your eyes are closed compared to when eyes are open.

Very funny. But I'm not surprised you're no longer consistent even though that's the exact opposite of what your mom wanted. African parents make this mistake of filling children's heads with bullshit because they think it'll provide a better result or the kids are too young for the knowledge. It's different in the west where they tell kids the truth of where babies come from but just keep the fine details. It makes kids smarter and more likely to think logically.

I still close my eyes when I pray shaa, it makes the connection and communication real since you can't see Jesus with your physical eyes.

Closing your eyes also helps in concentration.

I remember praying one time like that and something just made me open my eyes and It was straight at one magazine on the side table which had a nude lady as the cover, it made me lose focus I swear but I still managed to pray but that girl pic was still ringing in my head and mind 😆

You're right but it's an African thing. Most African parents find it difficult to say some certain things because they believe children are too young to hear them which is wrong. Like for instance they won't mention the word "Penis" in front of their children. They would prefer to call it funny names like tintin, sintè, pimpim etc.


I taught my 14yr old cousin so many things she knows now, her mum is the religious type who would prefer to speak in parables. Whenever I am giving her sex education I don't hold back anything, I say it raw.
