Maikano Umar, the chairman of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in Gombe State, has resigned as chairman of the party as well as his membership in the party.

Umar, who resigned in a letter he personally signed on Friday, also announced his intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Umar stated that he is leaving the NNPP for the APC due to the lack of political focus, leadership direction, and a clear blueprint by the party's Governorship candidate in Gombe State, Hon. Khamisu Mailantarki, who he claims has not explained how he will move the state forward and address its challenges if elected.
