The Labour Party (LP) on Wednesday said any attempt to force a postponement of the 2023 general elections is a treasonable offence which may also spell doom for the unity of Nigeria.

There were reports that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is plotting to shift the elections by four weeks owing to the fuel and naira scarcity across the country.

Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Chief Spokesperson Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LP-PCC), Dr Yunusa Tanko also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to yield to centrifugal forces who are seeking a postponement of the election.

While calling for a free, fair and credible elections, the party also urged INEC to ensure that the scheduled timetable of the election is strictly adhered to.

" That will be a treasonable offence against the state. The APC is not in position of power to determine whether election is to be postponed or not. That is strictly under the purview of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which is chaired by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu".

Any attempt by APC to force a postponement of the election will not be acceptable to all. We know that they are making the attempt knowing fully well that they are going to lose this election woefully".

"Of course, there are challenges but in 2019 there were more challenges that almost five states were alienated from Nigeria by Boko Haram, yet there was no postponement and the elections went ahead".

"We urge INEC to do everything within its capacity to ensure that the timetable of the election is strictly adhered to. We also implore them to conduct a free, fair and credible elections".

"INEC should not yield to centrifugal forces seeking for postponement of the election. Yielding to them may be dangerous to the unity of the country" the party said.

Thiefnubuu and APC know they are already out of the race (they’re not that stupid not to know).

Now, they’re trying to buy time, so they can initiate their plan B, which is to destabilize the whole process.

Nigerians will vote, Obi will win and Obi will be sworn in as President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria.

No need to postpone election. INEC should not allow itself to be used by APC. This will lead to violence. The FG is capable of providing INEC the necessary petrol and cash for the election

Tinubu seeing how the whole game is turning around before his eyes.....

He wants to come and put Nigeria under his wallet...along with Lagos state....

Then Shettima will now be using his boys to terrorise anybody that criticises this government....

Then Tinubu will increase taxes at will...

All the nonsense economic jargons he's been spewing can never come to pass having him as a president.....

I think APC is trying to consider the affairs of the people against the forthcoming election, if they are considering the postponement.

Postponing elections is a common tradition in Nigeria. I hope INEC listens to Labour Party though.

Say no to postponement

After this election we are going to be aware of certain things
1)the problem of Nigeria is tribalism and not all about religion but mostly tribalism
And hausas are not really tribalistic the way we thought
But the yorubas are more tribalistic..the problem with hausas is that little religious line..apart from that hausas are fantastic people

Because as at the time Buhari was sick and travelling for medical attention we all was clamouring for him to hand over to a healthy and vibrant Osinbajo. We regretted our action of being stupid to elect a sick old man

But now we have a vibrant and healthy Peter obi contesting but the yorubas because of tribalism wants us to install tinubu again knowing fully well that the world will mock us

The worse part of it is that the pain and memory of the incessant travel for medical check up by Buhari is still very fresh in our mind.not like it happened 20 years ago. It just happened yesterday..

And for all those quoting me. Please am not any of this tribe not igbo, yoruba or hausa. I'm from the South South

I wonder why opposition parties lie. These are just incendiary statements to generate hate, when did APC officially propose that elections should be postponed?

Labour Party that might not even win 1 state.

Atiku will flog Peter Obi mercilessly even in SE.

They are too easily bought. PDP have been their slave masters for 24 years. Nothing will change.

They disgraced Ojukwu in Senate and Presidential Elections for money.

Labour Party that will come 4th is making noise.

No election will be postponed so that you can quickly return to the obscurity you belonged to.

Political party that is housing all the failures from PDP.

APC is trying to buy time to redeem their failed image. Nothing they do would stop their loss on 25th Feb.
