Is it true that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has threatened to shut down some banks in the nation? Rumour reaching Politainmnet.net some hours ago was that the apex banking body issued the threat as a result of the ongoing Naira scarcity.

However, the CBN has discredited the notion that it intends to shut down certain deposit banks due to a shortage of naira.

The bank affirmed that there is no such plan in place. And this is in a statement released by Osita Nwanisobi. Osita Nwanisobi is the Director of Corporate Communications at the CBN.

Also, the statement emphasized that the claims are irrational. And that does not align with the operations of the Nigerian banking system.
