tete7000: (Though unfortunate) but in a CBN Vs Supreme Court scenario, who are you expected to follow? The AGF even said the government will respect the court's pronouncement. That means the status of the old notes remain the same until Feb 15. This supermarket are effectively rejecting the legal tender of Nigeria by rejecting the old notes - that's where the Kano State government comes in. Even though the supermarket is a private business that will seek to safeguard their interest, they should read the room better. If they open their doors and reject old notes, that's effectively shutting out 90 percent of their buyers because the overwhelming majority ONLY have the old notes even as I write. And how many people dey use online banking for buying Omo, soap or peak milk? Instead of naively siding with the CBN's cockooland policies, the supermarket should have closed shop for now. There's a cost to opening shop and would gain little if they don't accept old notes. They won't attract the state government if they decide not to open themselves. That's how they protect their interest. 1 Like |

Obaaderemi2: Stop saying rubbish, no one said it isn't a legal tender... I have every right to accept or reject any legal tender for my business, no one is forcing you to buy from me. Do you know that in UK, some of their public transport system and businesses only accept cards for transactions?? |

Shegs12345: Keep your old note and I hold by goods...you don't force me on how to trade my goods, very simple. What happened to transfer and use of debit card?? Some countries don't accept cash for some certain transactions. |

BossGerald:You are the one saying rubbish. You can't refuse a legal tender. Who are you to dictate to the governor how he runs his state in a federalism? He has every right to issue laws independent of the FG or whoever. If e pain you go and arrest the governor. 1 Like 1 Share |

BossGerald: That is exactly my point. The owner of business determines who to sell and means of payment. People open shops online and decides only to pay through USDT or a particular channel. it is their right 1 Like |

Thank you Gov Ganduje. |
Re: We Will Start Accepting Old Notes, Kano Supermarket Tells Ganduje by Agadinaagwuofe: 12:22pm On Feb 13, 2023 |
jelel6: The simple explanation is the owner of the shop is a victim like everyone else. His bank informed him they were not going to collect old notes from him and he decided to make amends to avoid him incurring a lot of losses. So if the Governor is fair he should have directed his force and hammer on the causative agent and not citizens reacting to adaptive features. Again Emefiele isn't the cause, Buhari action shows he is the one that approves and orchestrated the policy and Emefiele is only obeying his boss, I mean Buhari can sack Emefiele or reverse the whole policy if he feels Emefiele advised him wrongly or pushed out unfavourable policy but you know what is happening? Buhari is in court to defend it. The policy has it's merits and demerits and even though the implementation failed , it is only political stooges that plays ostrich will keep calling out Emefiele when they know he is only surbodinate to his Boss. |

Re: We Will Start Accepting Old Notes, Kano Supermarket Tells Ganduje by jelel6: 2:38pm On Feb 13, 2023 |
Agadinaagwuofe: I agree the supermarket is a victim like most private entities, so they are expected to take measures to protect their interest. However, rejecting the Naira at this moment under the excuse of CBN directive is naive, especially when you are big enough that word will get out to local authorities in a state with vested interest. Yes, it's certain that Buhari's government is behind the policy. But the CBN knows its own capacity and the challenges they are facing, does it look like they are advising the FG to extend the deadline to allow them phase out the old notes effectively? No. They are very much behaving like it's Feb 10 or Feb 15 and nothing else. Despite the reality on ground. It was always ambitious for our government to think they can phase out old notes in less than 6 months. I have nothing against the policy - but it hurts the common people even more than the politicians they are targeting. |

Re: We Will Start Accepting Old Notes, Kano Supermarket Tells Ganduje by BossGerald: 3:28pm On Feb 13, 2023 |
Shegs12345: The law you quoted never forced anyone to accept cash as a form of transaction. If you study entrepreneurship in tertiary school, you'd understand that money act rest on Apex bank and other commercial banks who made available how money can be transacted(transfer, pos, cash etc). Except you're working for a government establishment, you have every right to choose a particular form of transaction for your business. Stop sounding empty pls, I don't want to believe I'm arguing with a supposed educated individual. |
Re: We Will Start Accepting Old Notes, Kano Supermarket Tells Ganduje by Agadinaagwuofe: 8:37pm On Feb 13, 2023 |
jelel6: At the bolded, Buhari has axe to grind so the CBN governor now isn't acting on supervisory role rather he has been mandated to ensure the plan goes as the boss wants. Let me paint a scenario, If your boss ask you ask you how long will this project take, you can actively bid your time and give a reliable date but when your boss just tell you I need this project to be done in 2 weeks I don't care how is gonna be done just let it be two weeks, you will have no option than to resort to knee jerk approach. This exactly is the case of Emefiele with the money policy. I can't really fault Emefiele because I know his predicament not necessarily because he knows what he is doing. |
