Ondo State, Nigeria, has produced yet another world record holder as a secondary school student has set a new record in the Guinness World Records. The student, Gbenga Ezekiel, a senior secondary school one student of Ijapo High School in Akure, achieved the feat of most skips in one minute on one leg, beating the previous record set by Bangladesh’s Rasel Islam. Ezekiel recorded 265 skips in his attempt, breaking the previous record of 262 skips.

The 16-year-old student's feat was recorded at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure and later ratified by the Guinness World Records after they verified the authenticity of his attempt. Gbenga's success was communicated to the national coach of the Nigeria Rope Skipping Federation, Chubuisi Ukandu, and it has also been updated on the Guinness World Records website.

The young student expressed his delight at achieving this feat, saying that he took inspiration from videos he saw on the internet. He also thanked his coach for introducing him and other students to rope skipping and expressed his desire to do more in the future. Gbenga Ezekiel becomes the first athlete from Ondo State, the first Nigerian, and the first African rope skipper to achieve a Guinness World Records title.
