Suggested Electronic Voting System That Would Permanently Curb Rigging by redeff06: 5:15pm On Feb 26, 2023 |
Hello everyone. Here I bring to you a suggestion that would permanently solve the problems of our electoral system. A method that would enable free, transparent and fair electoral process. The Method is categorized into two options: one, to those who are technology savvy and the second to those who are not technology savvy. Please permit my inappropriate terminologies as you read through, thanks. Suggested Methods: Option 1: Voters who are technology savvy are provided with a public website, with which they can access and use it to cast their votes. This website will be such that it will only open and be made accessible within 24 hours. Prior to this, voters are verified through their registered phone numbers. As voters cast their votes, results are displayed instantly on the same website. As the voting period elapse, the website is shut down while the public waits for the final verdict from the INEC OFFICE. The advantages of this option are 1. You can vote from the comfort of your home through your phones, laptops etc 2. Voters would not need to waste energy and time staying on queue 3. Voters would not need to experience violence and intimidation at polling units 4. There would be an increased participation of citizens in voting activities. OPTION 2: This option would be for those who are not technology savvy. The Steps are: 1. Voting cards are issued to voters prior to the day of election. On the day of election, 2. Voters go to their various polling unit 3. Voters are verified by the BVAS machine 4. Voters slot in their card into an internet based Voting machine. Here's where the big deal is; the internet based Voting machine will be in a way that, as voters slot in their card, a private internet page will open which would enable the voters cast their votes. This private internet page meant for voting will be highly secretive and in such a way that it can only communicate between the voting machine at the various polling units and the INEC central office in order to prevent hacking. Once this is done, the results are transmitted to the central INEC office which would be broadcast live in real-time and made available for viewing nationwide. I believe this method will solve problems like intimidation, violence and rigging in our electoral system. Thanks What do you think fellow Nigerians. 5 Likes |

redeff06:How will this stop an MC Oluomo and other thugs from intimidating people? For as much as voting is not possible in your house and no adequate security in ALL PUs, there cannot be safe election. |

Nigeria is not a country it is an amalgamated entity. Here is my opinion. We can digitalize the electoral process 1.geofencing each pulling unit with bivas, 2. Bivas capturing full picture of a voter 3. Authenticating voters card with nin number and bvn 4. Creating a secured private network for bivas to transmit individual voting to public inec server using geotagging to determine the pulling unit where the reuslt is coming from 5.Creating a central accessible election website 6.eliminate ballot paper entirely and use digital thumbprint that authenticate it voter's card upon slotting ur card just like ATM machine 7.each pulling unit will have a bivas with Ip address. 3 Likes |

There should be voting machines There should be a card with chip and once you slot in your card your thumbprint is the pass word. And finally there should be camera to ensure a user doesn't log in and someone else cast vote for him or her... Let educated people vote 1 Like |

All these things you are typing will only make sense if you have human beings and civilized people in Nigeria. As you are suggesting this, one politician somewhere is already searching how to bypass it! Nigeria is filled with weird human beings. 1 Like |

sammirano: These are teenage Nigerian girls 5 years ago who emerged victors in a tech challenge against countries that are some 275 years old. 5 teenage girls from Anambra. They should be of voting age now and would fall into the category you call your typical 'Obingos'. Point is, you don't have to hide behind stupid excuses. If little girls from a country can achieve this, it's nonsense to assume the country itself cannot surmount a tech challenge in front of them with budget and infrastructure at their fingertips. 1 Like |

Option 1 is a no no. Option 1 is easy but it can be easily manipulated. That's the reason INEC prefers taking picture of the results instead of imputing the values. Option 2 can be refined to be the solution. The chip idea in a voters card is great. I think atm should be used for voting. |

The electronic voting system isn't new. The country just seems this third-world to adopt one. |

I think a tech company should sponsor a kind of competition for the youths to proffer solution to this problem. You will be amazed to see the kind of solutions our young programmers and software engineers come up with. We can’t remain third world country because they say so. |
