The Ekeweremadus On Trial: Week Four Of Seven Update by 1stGenAmerican(f): 5:49am On Mar 03, 2023
March 3, 2023 officially ends week four of a seven week UK trial of Ike, Beatrice, and Sonia Ekeweremadu and Dr. Obinna Obeta. After the next 3 weeks, the pre-selected will be left to deliberate the guilt or innocence of the four Defendants.

Week Four Recap
Called to the stand during week four were Dr. Obinna Obeta and Beatrice Ekeweremadu.

If you’ve been following this trial, you know that Dr. Obinna Obeta in 2021, the doctor traveled from Nigeria to the UK with a young man he was his cousin. While there, the doctor received a kidney transplant using one of the young man’s kidneys. Dr. Obinna Obeta has been identified as the person who searched Lagos to find a donor for Sonia Ekeweremadu.
According to BBC, the court on Monday heard how Dr Obeta had successfully undergone a kidney transplant in the UK in 2021, with a donor travelling from Nigeria who was said to be his cousin. But asked by his defence barrister, Sally Howes KC, if the man was in fact his cousin, Dr Obeta admitted that he was not.
Obeta then admitted to his lie.
“No, he’s not a blood relative. I wish to apologise for that,” Dr Obeta said.“At that point, I was really desperate to survive,” he added.
Asked if he accepted that by identifying him as a cousin was a lie, Dr Obeta said: “I’m not proud of that.”
Meanwhile, Obeta denied that he had offered any money for the donor’s kidney, or any kind of reward and told the court that he had kept in touch with the man after the operation.
The court heard that after his operation, Dr Obeta had contacted his donor to ask if he was able to find any further potential donors.
"There were others I had in mind. It's not an easy task," said Dr Obeta.
He told the court that he needed to know the motives of potential donors, while others were not going to have kidneys that matched.

Also called to the stand this week was Beatrice Ekeweremadu.
When asked by the prosecution if she understood the meaning of human trafficking, Beatrice told the court, “He was not trafficked. He is older than 15.” The statements that Beatrice gave investigators when she and her husband Ike were arrested at Heathrow Airport were read in court and Beatrice’s earlier statements matched the answer she gave the prosecutor. While she never gave the prosecutor a clear answer on whether or not she understood the meaning of human trafficking, Beatrice repeated her earlier statement about the young man not being 15 year old and not being trafficked.

Key Point
Though Obeta didn’t know from the onset of the discussion he had with the Senator’s younger brother, Dr Isaac Diwe Ekweremadu, in September 2021, that the would be recipient was Sonia, he encouraged his former University of Nigeria, Nsukka, classmate to get his brother involved in funding the planned kidney transplant. He told Diwe that was how he partly funded the transplant he had two months earlier.
When the discussion progressed, Obeta sent a bill of N4.5m to Diwe, saying N1m was agent’s commission, and the rest for the 21-year old donor. However, all Nwamini received was just N177, 100. Obeta’s brother-in-law, Ogbonna, who was supposed to be the agent, got just over N223, 000. Jurors were told neither Ogbonna nor Nwamini was told the amount that had been negotiated for them.

Survival of an innocent daughter gone wrong
So many exposures.
Lies from the Doctor Obeta, and diversion of funds .
But the British judiciary system is a bit confusing
What kind of trial is this ?
The duration and lack of bail for Ike.

Here is an article where Ike Ekweremadu is made to look like the victim of the doctor’s scam. While the doctor was greedy and lied about how the money was divided, the testimony establishes that Ike provided money to pay the person acting as an agent and the young man ‘donating’ the kidney Ike told Medical Staff that the young man was a close cousin, was donating a kidney, and no money was promised or given to anyone. At the start of the trial, Ike testified under oath that no money was paid to anyone for the donation, agent or donor. Ike has perjured himself and the Doctor has thrown himself and the Ekeweremadus under the bus.

The ongoing Old Bailey trial of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Beatrice, his wife, Sonia, their daughter and Dr Obinna Obeta, heard on Thursday that Obeta scammed the Senator’s family out of N4.5m while arranging for Sonia to get a kidney transplant through David Nwamini, the donor he sourced.

Under cross-examination from the Senator’s barrister, Martin Hicks, KC, and the Crown prosecutor, Hugh Davies, KC, an agitated Obeta reluctantly admitted from the witness box that he had “scammed” both the Ekweremadus and Nwamini.

When Hicks asked: “you were or were you not a substantial beneficiary of the monies paid by the Ekweremadus, were you?” The doctor got angry and said it made it look as if his labour of love to save a life was for monetary reward. “l don’t think l did that,” he responded.

Even though the evidence from the defence said it improved his First Bank of Nigeria balance to N4.9m from it’s previous balance of N400. When Hicks asked that aside the N177, 100, “did Mr. Nwamini get any of this money?” he arranged for the donor. He tried explaining and said: “they didn’t know l was trying to secure some money for him.”
The judge , Mr. Justice Johnson had to intervene to extract an answer from the doctor. He then asked Obeta, “l think the answer is it didn’t go to David.” It was then Obeta replied with a “yes.”

When Davies later had the floor, he too asked if Nwamini was aware that something had been put aside for him from the Ekweremadus for agreeing to donate his kidney. Obeta told jurors: “l didn’t tell him anything.” The trial continues.

Ekweremandu in hot soup.

Sad thing is that those he didn't represent while in the Senate since 1999 will come and defend him.

Same man that has 40 houses and refused to influence any tangible projects in his constituency.

The doctor was greedy and wasn’t going to tell the young man about the money, Ike paid the Doctor with the intentions of the young man receiving some of the money.
The duration and lack of bail for Ike and the doctor is due to both of them being flight risks. Bail was denied because it was believed both men would’ve fled the UK to avoid standing trial. From the looks of things, Ike and the doctor (and possibly Beatrice and Sonia) will also be held after the trial until the sentencing if they’re convicted.

A medical doctor and a Con artist. Some people are very mean, selfish and wicked.

I am earnestly waiting in anticipation for the verdict of the court.
