Nigeria Supreme Court gave her verdict on the old note and new notes saga today. The apex court declared that old N1000 N500 N200 notes remain Valid till December 31, 2023.

Politainment.net reports that the Supreme Court of Nigeria has declared the use of old naira notes. News reaching Nigerians today is that the deadline will be December 31, 2023. Also, the court voided the Federal Government’s naira redesign policy.

The decision was made in response to a suit brought against the government by sixteen states of the Federation. And this was led by Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara.

The above states challenged the legality of the policy. Also, they accused President Muhammadu Buhari of usurping the Central Bank of Nigeria’s function in its implementation.

Also, they argued that the policy was causing hardship to innocent Nigerians. But then, the Federal Government challenged the jurisdiction of the apex court. And this was on the grounds that the CBN was not joined as a party. And that the dispute on the policy should be directed at the CBN so that the suit could be referred to the Federal High Court.
