1. Those countries owe themselves, in their own currencies, not foreigners.
Like FG owing CBN.
That "debt" is the total volume of printed money.✔️

2. Japan stat is wrong. Debt is about 230% of GDP = >$12trn

3. Nigeria's Federal debt is N47trn ($101bn). It was $9.7bn in 2015. Your data is mortally misleading.✖️

4. Nigeria is owing others & in foreign currency. That is the world's biggest debt. Meaning she has to work, earn the foreign currency through forex and pay - that's very different!

These debts in the US only exist on account sheets of paper, they carry zero weight.

LoL why are you sharing misinformation?. You have no idea what you're talking about. These monies were borrowed to finance country's project . But slave Nigerians will find excuse like yours just because it involve the USA and other countries we worship

This is the most intelligent question here…Who you borrow from matters a lot and the volume of the debt and that is what is happening with Westerner countries unlike in Africa countries.

E.g bulk of US debts is owe to Social Security and the Federal Reserve and both entities are part and parcel of the US it’s, it is like the debt a husband owes his wife.

The other part of US debt are just IOU notes aka bonds they sell to China. China can sell those bonds back in the stock market and people will buy them, or the US can go back to the Federal Reserve borrow money and buy the notes back from China.

However in countries like Nigeria and others in Africa, we mortgage our future to borrow from external countries and squander the money.

Come read FreeStuffsNG and jumper524.
This is the breakdown of US debt so I honestly do not know how you concluded on the @bolded

The op must be an urchin trying to sell his expired goods. Most western debts are in bonds and their GDP is balanced unlike Nigeria that borrows from anywhere with nothing to show for it.

That's a very good question!! But the problem is that if explained to you why, you won't believe it because it's a scam that even an Ngozi Okonjo Iweala grade of economists fall for and have no idea what's it's about.

I don't know where to begin to explain it because topics Ike this have remote causes that needs to be explained in a paragraph or two.

But let me try....

In brief, this problem began in 1973 when a US president, Nixon removed gold as the guarantee of real money or if you like; as the backer of real money. This means that the US can print any amount of paper and give it to another country as real money.

The other top counties learned the trick. That's enough background for now.

The US, UK, Germany, France, all those top developed countries run national scams called treasury bills, bonds, etc. Through their global control and stooges in government across the world, sell PAPER documents as money. They get other countries to sign documents that they have invested in US treasuries, bonds, etc but the money doesn't exist!! That's, they use their image to sell paper (non-existing money) to other countries and collect real money from them.

The counties the US so called owe are China, Japan, etc, other top counties who bought paper from the US. But in reality, the US doesn't owe anybody a dime. It's a scam!!

Well put, also the US borrows from itself e.g. from Social Security and Federal Reserve.

Like you said, those IOU sold to China & Japan are scam and paper money, if China makes mouth tomorrow that they want their money back, they can sell the note in the market or the US can go to Federal Reserve and ask them to mint one coin and put a face value of $300 billion on it and send it China and ask them to return change, it is all a very big scam.

But in Africa it is not a scam, we borrow money using foreign currencies and exchange real values, since these loans are in foreign currencies we can’t tell CBN to mint a 1 trillion Naira coin and use it to settle China just like US.

What concerns me is Nigeria, I do not care how much debt other countries have acquired, besides, especially in the western world which have always used as our bench mark, they utilize their borrowed monies to make their societies much better than ever, but in our case, our politheifians uses borrowed funds for campaigns and white elephant projects which neither improve the well-being of the populace or have any tangible positive impact on our society. Besides, the outgoing administration, having increased our debt profile more than 3 times the way they met it have nothing to show as an evidence of it being used properly.

Most of these countries used the money to fund infrastructure and some big projects, but that is not the case in Nigeria. Our leaders are the reason we are in debts. They pocketed the money meant for the general public.

The figure for Nigeria was underestimated. Our debt is more than $40 billion dollars.

Thank you very much my brother.

You understand what's going on!! Sadly, most people don't.

The US can pay China or any other country they so called owe with a single coin as you put it, as long as they write $31 Trillion on it as the value.

But our debts in Africa are real debts that we owe!! We don't have what it takes to have others buy our paper documents as money, instead we pay with real wealth in natural resources and labor.

This is the side African governments don't understand, so they keep borrowing, not realizing they've been orchestrated to borrow into real debt, whereas a country like the US isn't in real debt. I am even surprised you understand it. You certainly know something that others don't.

Simple economics will inform you that if you want to expand your business, you need to seek for loans or partners.

Countries that are highly indebted and very industrialized while providing essential welfare schemes are EXTREMELY doing well.

The reverse is the case for countries that borrow but spend it on recurrent expenses instead of capital expenditures. Nigeria is a case study in this regard.
