The Lagos state government has condemned the alleged plans to exhume the body of late Whitney Adeniran, the Chrisland student who was electrocuted during her school's inter-house sports, IGBERETV reports.

Whitney's mum, Blessing Adeniran, in a post shared on her Instastories on Friday, March 3, alleged that authorities of Chrisland school called the police and have asked for a fresh autopsy. This would mean the body of late Whitney that was laid to rest on Thursday, March 2, will be exhumed.

In a statement released on Saturday March 4, the Lagos state Ministry of Justice says it will oppose any plans to exhume Whitney's body. The statement read;

"LAGOS CONDEMNS ALLEGED PLANS TO EXHUME EX-CHRISLAND STUDENT’S BODY

PRESS STATEMENT

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice is aware of the current ongoing dialogue about the alleged plans to exhume the body of the late Whitney Omodesola Adeniran, a student of Chrisland Schools whose death as revealed by the autopsy, conducted by Lagos State University Teaching Hospital was as a result of asphyxia and electrocution.

Whilst we have not received any such official communication requesting for exhumation , however if and when we do receive such a request, we shall be opposed to it.

In any event, the circumstances for exhumation under the Coroners’ Systems Law, 2015 do not arise in this case.

Additionally, it is not our intention to further traumatize the deceased’s family.

We are working closely with the police who have given their reassurance that the duplicate case file would be forwarded on Monday, 6th of March, 2023 to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to aid the speedy issuance of Legal Advice."

The audacity of that Chrisland school!
Looking for excuses to justify their carelessness, because it has been revealed that the young girl died by electrocution.
An information they tried so hard to cover.

What gave them the effrontery to dare to think they can exhume the body without the family's consent?

Kudos to the state's government for their intervention on the matter.

was the initial autopsy done secretly?

If they are looking for ways to do damage control they better devise a better plan.

Demanding for exhuming the corpse for autopsy is a terrible thing to even suggest

On what basis are they demanding another autopsy?
This is what LASG should first demand if indeed the school is requesting such?
We mustn't use government to Lord over individuals and organisations.
If an appointed pathologist from the school was present and accepted that the autopsy was properly conducted and signed, then their request is prosperous.
But if no pathologist from the school was present or he didn't sign or disputes the chief pathologist's report, then an issue arises that should be handled openly and fairly.
We are talking of the untimely, gruesome death of a young girl with a bright future.
Going forward, what lessons has the government learnt from this,to avoid repeat in future because closing of school is not always the answer.
