1.The Aworis:

more than 70% of Lagos is own by the Aworis. The Benin met the Aworis on Lagos island, conquered them, and the Oba of Benin impose his son as king on Lagos Island alone. Other parts of Lagos are governed by Awori traditional rulers. Even on the island, the chiefs surrounding the king are Yorubas
Note that Awori is a Yoruba tribe and Lagos island is one out of 20 local govt in Lagos.

2. Ijebus:

Epe, Ibeju Leki, and Ikorodu are parts of Lagos owned by the Ijebus. An account suggest that these parts of Lagos have being in existence under traditional rulers before Benin invaded the Aworis on Lagos island.

3. Ogu popular called Egun in Yoruba:

This set of people speak different language. Some of them are Yorubas. They own some parts of Badagry.

4. Egbas:

They are originally from Abeokuta. They own some parts of Agege and Ifako-ijaiye.

5. Slave returnees:

When slave trade was abolished. Some slaves that were returned settled in Lagos and become part of the indigene.

Also note:

The reason you may find it difficult to see Lagos indigene in commercial areas is because when Lagos was Federal Capital Territory, many indigenes were displaced because of government aquisition of land. For instance, the Murtala Muhammed international airport was built on land occupied by a whole village called Ewu. These villagers were relocated to pave way for the airport

Most people living in surulere were evicted from Lagos island

your second to the last paragraph reminded me of Abuja. Most of the indigene of Abuja were driven away because of federal capital. The main indigene you hardly see them in the town.
