Some commercial banks have started issuing out old N500 and N1000 notes to their customers.

At least three banks in Abuja, issued out old N500 and N1000 notes to customers in Abuja on Monday while a bank in Kano also did the same.

Checks by Daily Trust on Monday afternoon showed that some banks were still maintaining old status quo by issuing out only old N200 notes.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is yet to issue a directive on the order of the Supreme Court that the old N500 and N1000 notes phased out by the Federal Government must remain in circulation till December.

In a unanimous judgement, a seven-member panel of justices presided by Justice Inyang Okoro, on Friday, held that the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the redesigning and withdrawal of old notes of N200, N500 and N1,000, without consultation with the states, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the National Council of State and other stakeholders, was unconstitutional.

The apex court observed that no reasonable notice was given before the implementation of the policy as provided under the CBN Act.

Nigerians are just un serious about the naira redesign. I was just laughing with the back and forth arguments about it when it's something that will inflict hardship on Nigerians.

The policy is good but the implementations was just so poor. Naira redesign wasn't part of Apc manifesto, the idea came late just to show Buhari fight corruption which caught Apc governors on aware.

It wasn't a deliberate attempt to work against Tinubu. Emefiele assured Buhari that the policy will work. More than half of the new naira notes first released was obtained by the politicians irrespective of political party, Emefiele should have extended the stipulated time as the implementations failed.

Emefiele might have good intentions about the policy but the implementations should have been reviewed earlier.

Emefiele should have admitted to Buhari that the implementations failed but was instead trying to save face

Nigeria was not designed to work.

Nigerians will actually celebrate this because the system has programmed them to be all about "WHAT I AM EATING TODAY "... they can't see beyond the crumbs they'll eat today.
