By: Wole Adedoyin
The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has announced a Creative Writing Competition for secondary school students to commemorate the 2023 World Book and Copyright Day. The theme of the competition is "Effects of Piracy on the Book Ecosystem," and the competition is open to all secondary school students in Nigeria.
The aim of the competition is to encourage young writers to explore the impact of book piracy on the book industry, and to promote awareness of copyright laws and their importance in protecting creative works. The NCC hopes that the competition will inspire students to become advocates for the protection of intellectual property rights.
The competition is open to entries in the form of essays, short stories, and poems, and entries should not exceed 1000 words. Students are encouraged to be creative and to use their writing to explore the theme in a thought-provoking and engaging way.
Entries can be submitted via email to padncc@copyright.gov.ng. Students should include their name, school, and class when submitting their entry. The closing date for submissions is 31st March, 2023, and winners will be announced in April. There are lots of prizes to be won.
The competition is a great opportunity for students to showcase their writing skills and to have their work recognized by a reputable organization. It is also a chance for students to learn about the importance of copyright laws and their role in protecting the rights of authors and other creative professionals.
The NCC is committed to promoting awareness of intellectual property rights and to protecting the rights of creative professionals in Nigeria. The Creative Writing Competition for secondary schools is just one of the many initiatives the NCC has undertaken to achieve these goals.
The NCC is also committed to promoting literacy and a love of reading among young people in Nigeria. By encouraging students to explore the impact of piracy on the book ecosystem, the NCC hopes to raise awareness of the importance of reading and of supporting authors and publishers.
The competition is open to all secondary school students in Nigeria, regardless of their background or academic ability. The NCC believes that every student has the potential to be a great writer and to make a positive contribution to society.
The NCC encourages teachers and schools to promote the competition to their students and to use it as an opportunity to encourage literacy and a love of reading. The competition is also a great way for teachers to teach their students about copyright laws and the importance of respecting the rights of authors and other creative professionals.
Finally, the Creative Writing Competition for secondary schools organized by the Nigerian Copyright Commission is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their writing skills, to learn about copyright laws, and to promote literacy and a love of reading.
