INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu Admits That February 25 Elections Was Not Perfect by NwekeUG(m): 5:43am On Mar 14, 2023
The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has admited that the elections conducted by the Commission on February 25, was not perfect, IGBERETV reports.

Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners RECs.

The INEC chairman said that officials of the commission, including ad-hoc or collation personnel, who may have been found wanting in the conduct of the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly Elections will not be involved in the forthcoming elections.

He said; “As we approach the Governorship and State Assembly elections, we must work harder to overcome the challenges experienced in the last election. Nothing else will be acceptable to Nigerians. All staff found to be negligent, whether they are regular or ad hoc officials, including Collation and Returning Officers, must not be involved in forthcoming elections. RECs must also immediately initiate disciplinary action where prima facie evidence of wrongdoing has been established”

He said that complaints and petitions from political parties and candidates regarding the February 25 election, were received by the Commission's state offices. According to him, where unprofessional practice of any kind are proven, there will be redress.

On the day of the next election, Yakubu said that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS will once again be deployed for voter accreditation and result management. He said the deployment of BVAS has gone a long way to sanitise voter accreditation as can be seen from the result of recent elections.

“Since last week, the Commission has intensified the review of the technology to ensure that glitches experienced, particularly with the upload of results are rectified. We are confident that going forward the system will run optimally”, he said.

This is not enough. They need to go to jail for electoral crimes. Even Wike that masterminded the rigging of Rivers elections shouldn't go scot-free.

Lawlessness is one of our biggest problems in this country. People commit crimes & go free.

Check well, the person that made these alterations may not have been arrested...

After you have deliberately and deceitfully manipulated the Election results. It's not enough to admit wrongs, just remedy what wrongs you know you have done.

Never was. Even if INEC chooses to embrace online voting based on facial recognition, riggers will rig.

This is a Total Failure to INEC,
Professor Yakubu lacks Credibility and Trust.

It is so Discredit and unprofessional when our Elite Elders makes Themselves an Instrument of Disunity and Destruction of our Great Nation.

History will also Remember these Corrupt Elders.

Ogbeni, what will be better next time,?

Let's correct the first error and move on...

As far as there is an error, then we need to correct it before we move to the next line of action!

There is no Perfect elections anywhere in the world..

Even, in the USA, Hillary Clinton challenged her election against Trump..

Trump challenged the process of his election against Biden..

The most important thing is to have a substantially free, fair and credible election..

Electioneering process has multilevel challenge, it's just not possible to be perfect in all..

Nigeria's electorates, politicians, security and even INEC ad-hoc staffs can be involved in or or two things that can cause irregularities..

But, are the irregularities substantially enough to affect the outcome That's the big question.

If you count 2023 elections 1001 times, it is clear, Asiwaju will win. He won that election.

Various elected offices being occupied by several political parties is also a testament the election was credible to a large extent
