Someone should show him this maps.

Below is the 1962 map of lagos

the dot at the bottom was where the Lagos Island Capital Was all the rest was under the western region

You can see that more than 97% of Today’s lagos was in Awolowo’s western region

Even Lagos Island was handed back to Awolowo as part of the western region at Independence

the western region allowed the National Government to Continue using Lagos Island as the Capital only

out of Consideration for the National Interest

Lagos Island itself is the Property of the Awori Yorubas who gave his returnee slave Ancestors refuge and rehabiltated them

But this insult is too much

People like Desmond Elliott are Yoruba Saro they don't insult other Yorubas like this

This mischief must be the handwork of Bode George

The Saros played a treacherous role in the battle that replaced Oba Kosoko with British vassal Akitoye
Ogun Ahoyaya
Today is not the time to go into detail other than to say Madam Tinubu a prominent Egba Lagosian, slave dealer and wife of Oba Adele lost out when the British decided to end slave trade and returning slaves sided with the British
She was banished to Abeokuta by the British
For a long time there was not much intermarriage because of the slave stigma and s stream of Saros flowed into the Island

Lagos Island was not handed back
The Federal capital had a minister the late Yar'adua 's father
The Federal capital ended around the rail crossing where Fela's house used to be: IdiOro
Western Region was from Mushin on that axis
Four divisions Epe,Ikeja,Ikorodu and Badagry were Western Region
Th last Lagos was what used to be called Eko Fedira(federal) before the state was created in 1967

I know the History very well

Chinedu Rhodes attitude is absolutely Shocking, it is the equivalent of Kenya claiming to own the united States because Obama was President over it

Who do Chinedu and ipob think they are ?

Lagos is Aworiland

Lagos is 100% Yorubaland

The Awori are 100% Yorubas and from Ife Originally

On the day the British Colonial Government first landed in Lagos in 1851 Oyo controlled Badagry Area including Seme Which they had taken from the king of Dahomey along with Porto Novo (Ajase) in War .

The Oyos had initially also taken Allada ,Ouidah and Cotonou at the time but the King of Dahomey had managed to take them back while the Oyo were very busy fighting the Power drunk Afonja and the Fulani at Ilorin

The Oyos had fought Dahomey as Allies of the Eguns
aare oona kakanfo oyabi had led the Oyo Army

The Abeokuta Egba Army Controlled all of Lagos Mainland including Iddo Island and all the Territory from there to Abeokuta Which they had won in the Ota War of 1842 in Which the Oyos of Ibadan fought as Allies of Oba Kosoko and the Awori and received such a heavy defeat at the hands of the Egbas that the Ibadan Army had to be smuggled back home.

The whole Episode almost led to the downfall of Basorun Oluyole back at Ibadan

The Ijebu Army Controlled Everything East and North of Lekki including Victoria Island

All Oba Kosoko Controlled was the Slave market and Port of Isale Eko on Lagos Island, Even Ikoyi belonged to the Onikoyi who was Awori Yoruba with Oyo roots

Again if you hear that Yorubas spent 100 years fighting themselves till 1878,

Just know that the Egba, Ijebu and Oyo Which included Ibadan were also fighting for Control of the Coast of Lagos

Control of the Coast of Lagos meant Titanic Wealth. but unfortunately much of that was from the Slave trade

The Lagos territory Controlled by the Egbas , Oyo and Oba Kosoko belonged to the Awori People who were the most Peaceful and accommodating of all Yoruba Clans

Eko is Yoruba short for Ereko which means field and for Confirmation Ereko Market where the Egbas and Ijebu traded is still on Lagos Island today

Also Eko Ende in Osun State was one of the Locations of the Jalumi War of 1878

The Awori have inhabited Lagos since the 13th Century when they migrated from Ile Ife led by Olofin Ogunfuminire who was a great grandson of Oduduwa and a nephew of Oranmiyan who headed to Benin around the same period

The Land on Which Isale Eko of the Oba of Lagos is located belongs to the Awori Yoruba Aromire family till today

Aromire was one of the Sons of Olofin Ogunfuminire

The Otun Ekiti People migrated from Lagos in the 15 th Century and share the same ancestry with the Awori of Lagos

It was the returnee Egba Slaves who had been Converted to Christianity at Sierra Leone Bishop Ajayi Crowther included that asked the British Queen Victoria to invade Oba Kosoko’s Lagos in order to finally end the Evil Slave trade

Bishop Ajayi Crowther had met with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert her Husband at Windsor Castle over the Issue of how to finally end the Slave Trade in Lagos on 18th November 1851 and the Royal British Navy Bombarded Lagos one month Later on 26th of December 1851.

Bishop Ajayi Crowther who was originally from Osogun near Oyo had himself at age 13 been sold to a Portuguese Slave Trader at Lagos for a bottle of Wine and some Tobacco leaves

Capt Labulo Davies who later married Queen Victoria’s adopted Daughter Sarah Bonnetta (Aina) originally from Ilaro , was on the British ship that Bombarded Oba Kosoko’s Lagos in 1951 and Oba Akitoye whom the British had restored to the Throne of Lagos had first met the British Missionaries at Abeokuta while he was exiled there as Abeokuta was also Oba Akitoyes Owu mother’s Hometown he had promised. to end the Evil Slave Trade if the British helped to restore him to his Throne which his nephew Oba Kosoko had Usurped with the help of some local and Portuguese Slave traders after Oba Akintoye had driven the Portuguese Slave Traders out of Lagos 6 years earlier

Slave Trading was Oba Kosoko’s Business and his Slave Market was at Ereko Market of Isale Eko on Lagos Island where he also sold European made Goods

Ok listen to the Oba of Lagos Himself
At 25 mins of the Video below the what did Oba of lagos mean when he Said
"I am a Yoruba monarch" ?

Badagry was the Alaafin of Oyos Sea Port

and the Egun were his Subjects but as you said that is for another day and the Egun can clarify their own History themselves

But this Chinedu boy doesn't know the first thing about Lagos History which is Lagos City itself belongs mainly to Awori and Ijebu

Autochthons do not bear any of those names like Doherty,Williams,Coker,Smith,Gonzalez,Da Silva,Cole,,Doherty,Randle etc but those families settled and identified as Yoruba and were accepted. Many were educated to very high standard and consequently constituted a privileged and elite class on the Island with direct access to the colonial British
Many sent their kids to London to get educated e.g Olayinka Rhodes in the famous Board members song
Their contribution to Lagos cannot be denied but I understand why they might not have a full concept of the Rest of the state

It is simply not true. Let us not derail this thread
Oyo never controlled Ijebu and certainly not Badagry You might need to go to Ajase/Porto Novo to seek Oyo controlled ports.
You need to unlearn that
It is also not true that Oyo was in the reckoning in 1851.Ibadan was the major military force involved in the Osogbo war in 1840

That is nonsense I am sorry. At no time was Lagos Island part of the Western Region or governed from Ibadan
It's status in British Law was also different from the rest of Nigeria. The pre 1960 passport was different if you were born in "Lagos Colony" which was not a Protectorate but a Possession of the British Crown. If you were born in Lagos Colony before 1960 you can still today apply for a British passport

You just jump in like an errant child into adult conversationand start talking ignorantly
Who is talking about territory?
We are talking law and legal status
Where does SURRENDER come into it.
The question of What is or is not Nigerian territory can only arise after 1960. Before then it was British and So any queries would have to reference British law and treaties. Part of why we had to give up Bakassi
What was the official title of Nigeria after Amalgamation in 1914
Today it is Federal republic of Nigeria
What was it in 1914?
Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria
Colony was Lagos
Legally in British law the rest of Nigeria was a Protectorate and not a Colony many never inquire into what that means legally but it is significant
The likes of Vivour-Rhodes may qualify for a British passport by a complex but still valid route

It's status in British Law was also different from the rest of Nigeria. The pre 1960 passport was different if you were born in "Lagos Colony" which was not a Protectorate but a Possession of the British Crown. If you were born in Lagos Colony before 1960 you can still today apply for a British passport

Christistruth01, he is right about what the area composition of colonial Lagos was as at pre-independence.

However, Lagos was part of the Western Region Parliament, as such, Azikiwe being an MP from Lagos, wanted to become Premier of the Western Region.

When his NCNC failed to gain majority seat in the Western Region Parliament, with AG forming the regional government with Awolowo as Premier, Azikiwe then tried to go to the Federal Parliament as a Lagos MP. However, the regional Parliament was required to ratify those who would proceed to Federal Parliament, so Awolowo rather ensured that it was a Yoruba Lagos MP (Olorunimbe) that was ratified for Lagos to proceed to the federal Parliament.

Azikiwe realising that Awolowo had successfully caged him within the Western Region Parliament, abandoned his Lagos MP seat at the Ibadan regional Parliament, and took up a seat by replacement in the East, and ensured he resisted Dr Eyo Ita who had become Premier as NCNC leader in the SouthEast but could not successfully start his government, so he could take up the Eastern Premiership for himself as NCNC national leader.
