Top 5 Biggest Churches In Uyo, Akwa Ibom State by Owwire: 3:31pm On Mar 20, 2023
Akwa Ibom State is predominantly a religious state, having a higher percentage of its inhabitants practicing Christianity. It has become more of a culture and a tradition that 8 or 9 out of every 10 persons in the state belong to a church or have a fair, and average knowledge about the Faith. It is worth noting that the state is named after God. “Akwa Abasi Ibom State” translated verbatim as “Great-God-Almighty-State”.

There are lots of churches in Akwa Ibom state segmented into the Orthodox, Protestants, and Pentecostals. In this regard, a lot of worshippers attend these denominations. In most cases, some of the churches experience massive turnouts while some, a few. However, to accommodate those with massive crowds, bigger auditoriums are built. Looking around Uyo, there are churches with bigger, larger, and massive seating capacities to house thousands of persons who share fellowship and, in this post, I will be writing about the biggest churches in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State (The State Capital).

HERE ARE THE CHURCHES LISTED BELOW:

1. Full Life Christian Center, Nsikak Edouk Avenue, Uyo

Headed by Reverend Ntia Ime Ntia and his dear wife (Pastor Ukamaka Ntia) is one of the fastest growing churches in Akwa Ibom state with different followers and faithful especially, amongst the young persons. Its headquarters is located in Uyo, the state capital. Founded in 2000, this church has grown in all capacities with different branches. The first auditorium of Full Life Christian Center was about 5000 sitting capacity but after a few years and due to the speedy growth of the church, they moved into a 1-storey, 10,000-sitting facility. A massive and cozy building with sky-blue paintings and deep-blue zinc with gold-plated signage having the name of the church, where they hold their services. It is said that they are building their campground along Airport Road, (the outskirts of the city) which will sit about 50,000 capacity, and other structures like offices, etc. They also have the Full Life Schools still along Nsikak Edouk Avenue and they are involved in different humanitarian projects too.

2. The Apostolic Church, Obio Imo, Uyo

In Akwa Ibom State, different denominations have had massive numerical strength. The Apostolic Church is one of those early churches that have massive followers from most (if not all) of the local government areas in the state. Since Uyo is the capital city, most people from different places living in the city will want to maintain the church of their birth and in this case, a bigger auditorium is needed to accommodate them. This particular assembly is more like the state headquarters of the church and on its regular sitting, it sits about 10,000 persons per service, the structure is on a huge landed property with enough space on the outside for car parks, etc. But during major events like conventions, it takes up to 13 to 15 thousand people per service. This massive edifice is located on Obio Imo street in the heart of town.

3. Insight Bible Church, Nsikak Edouk Avenue

This church building is not only huge but special, especially for those in the church music scene in the town as it is part of the biggest churches in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, it is officially a haven for the hosting of musical concerts and other events. The majority of the top musical concerts in the city are held here. Such a huge blessing this building has been, not only for the inhabitants but for the body of Christ in the city. God bless them. This church is pastored by Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia, his wife, and a team of pastors. The numerical strength of the assembly transverses all age groups and the church can accommodate about 5,000 and more worshippers at the same time. Nicely located on an easy-to-access property with enough parking spaces both in front and at the back.
The design of the house is unique and flags of different African countries are used in decorating the inside, the hall is accurate for performing art events like musical concerts, dramas, etc. The stage formation and the backstage entrance/exit are best fit for such an event.

4. Power City International, Uyo

The name “Abel Damina” needs little or no introduction as his brand of teaching on “The-New-Creation-In-Christ” is causing a lot of uproars nevertheless, this church that started as “Power Chapel” then changed to the current name “Power City International” is home to a lot of followers and its headquarters is located at 98 Nwaiba, Uyo. It sits about 5000 persons in a single service. The hall is serene and cozy, the acoustics and lighting of the hall make it adorable. Adding to the hall, there are different overflows as well.

5. Christ Embassy, Udo Udoma, Uyo

Christ Embassy is a unique denomination in the Nigerian Christian community as they amass a lot of followers around the world. In Uyo, their faithful are too numerous to converge in a single space. However, there is their headquarters that sits about 5000 persons in a single location close to the Akwa Ibom State house of Assembly. It is a beautiful edifice. The lighting system of the hall is top-notch.
