The Awka Capital Territory Development Agency has commenced the removing of illegal structures erected along the path carved out for the expansion of the Unizik/Okpuno Road.

The agency said that the illegal structures are delaying the commencement of work by the construction company handling the project.

Reacting to the development, one of the residents of the area, Mr. Olisachukwukwelu Ezeigwu stated that the demolition is for the best interest of the people.

Mr. Ezeigwu blamed the residents of the area for failing to heed to the various notices served on them by ACTDA before the demolition.

The chief of staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Ernest Ezeajuighi who also monitored the exercise, said that one of the cardinal objectives of the Soludo administration is to build a peaceful, livable and prosperous homeland to aid rapid growth and development of the State.

Mr. Ezeajughi appreciated the efforts of ACTDA Managing Director, Mr. Ossy Onuko in ensuring the smooth construction of the road, and maintained that the demolition was necessary for the contractors to enable them construct a dual carriage road to open up the city and this will make Awka one of the best cities in the Nigeria.

The Chief of Staff expressed optimism that at the completion of the project, residents of the area and the good people of Anambra will appreciate the state government.

Also speaking, the ACTDA Managing Director, Mr. Onuko reaffirmed the commitment of the agency in making the capital territory one of the best.
