Former Nigerian Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was convicted of organ trafficking along with his wife and doctor. The trio was found guilty by a court in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, for illegally taking organs from poor people and selling them to wealthy individuals in need of transplants.

According to the prosecution, the defendants operated a clandestine network that targeted the poor and vulnerable, including the homeless and mentally ill. They would lure these individuals to clinics, where they would be drugged and their organs removed without their consent. The harvested organs would then be sold for huge sums of money to wealthy patients in Nigeria and abroad.
