Taxes will only guarantee you the right to live, school, work, do business, healthcare and have access to other social amenities in the region you live in. Voting will only be allowed in your state of origin.

Paying taxes and voting are civic responsibilities. Earning a living and healthy standard or living are not civic responsibilities. Disenfranchising people by any means can't be justified to be honest. If people have to spend so much to vote, their country better be paying them damned well.

I'd have suggested a better and more secure means of voting but seeing how INEC managed to rubbish the recent elections despite all the planning and funding, It might as well be easier for pigs to fly than such innovations gain traction any time soon.

Decentralisation is the answer.

We need to completely kill the type of ethnic propaganda that was spurn up during the last elections. The opportunity for irresponsible political actors and their surrogates to push us to the brink should be totally cut off.

A proposed ammendment to the electoral act and other areas of the constitution that concerns the right to vote to reflect this might just come up during the next national assembly.

Then it’s better Nigeria cease to exist.

If you’re going to another region to live then permit is required.

States like Lagos, Portharcourt, Kano should be made to contribute more to Federation account to help in investment in other regions.

What played out in Lagos should give Non westerner a huge concern.

Buying properties in the south west is a huge risk.

There is a type of disenfranchisement called 'Disenfranchisement due to ethnicity/residence'.

Hmmm...

Or better still, let there be a constitutional provision for people to only be eligible to vote in their state of origin. This will help to allay the fears of a take over by another ethnic group in certain regions.
Nigeria as a country can NEVER succeed because of the following:
1.Imposed constitution
2. Lack of COMPULSORY and continuous national birth and death registration which means no social security number (person number)
3. Federal character.
4. State of Origin

We want development but we avoid things that developed people do. No be JuJu be that? Just imagine how stupid it will sound if anyone asks you for your state of origin in New York or London.

Tribalism is not about this forum alone. The advent of the social media has only succeeded in expanding the tribal horizon. The moment a topic comes up for discussion even in the society, before we even consider the issue, what comes up is our tribal fang that is already waiting to dig into whoever wants to express an honest opinion.

Truth is, if you are to gauge the future unity of Nigeria on comments on the social media, you will discover that the future is bleak.

Well, I will not doubt you but I have been a member of this forum for years I feel it is like it is getting deeper everyday.
I don't think this forum is the only forum. I have join some other ones I have not felt it this way.

I think the way people are playing politics these days are the main cause of all these.

I want to say that Seun should find a way of punishing people at least it will go a long way of solving most of these problems but if we keep on keeping quiet the consequences will be too much even the old people that started this will die and leave the younger people to face the situation.

Nigeria is a ridiculous country that has been unable to resolve and move past the ethnic fault lines engineered by her colonial masters.

What I proposed is a rational way forward and a possible way of ending the mutual suspicion amongst the various ethnic groups in Nigeria. Since everyone can only vote in their state of origin, nobody will cry that their state is about to be taken over by another ethnic group during election season.

The 2023 Gubernatorial elections in some states marked a near crescendo of tribal propaganda that had been deployed many times in the past. It must never happen again!

We as a people must figure out how to live together in peace, and one of the ways we can do this is to ensure that indigenes are protected from the (real or imagined) political meddling of settlers in their various states.

Everybody should go back to their states of origin to vote.
Does this even make any sense to you?

It is selfishness to take taxes from people and when it's time for politics, you remind them of their state of origin.

If you don't want non indigenes to vote, you should also stop collecting taxes from them.
What stop u from doing business in Ur region or state if u don't want to pay taxes. Even in Britain, u must pay taxes for everything and nobody is forcing u to stay if u don't want to pay taxes. Lagos is for Yoruba and anybody want to stay and do business there must pay taxes or else u are free to go back to Ur region and do whatever u like there.

Has anyone considered that rotational presidency to the south would not have gained a resounding momentum this time around if Buhari had not done a second term.

Only Tinubu without much support from even his own base seemed to believe in what he was doing during 2019 elections, not that it made much sense at the time. Just a thought…

Your problem will solve, the day you begin to hold your leaders responsible in your region.

Yorubas are not the reason why Okowa has not paid the retirees their benefits while Hausa/ Fulani is not the reason why your Gov in Abia has refused to do any projects since he came to office

I think this argument is stale. Let their regional leaders be.
The issue here is the national cake. The other leaders in charge of the national cake are not doing any better. They milking the rest of the country.
Nigeria must return to regionalism, that's the only way out otherwise the drums of civil war will start beating again.
The international community will never allow a civil war therefore they will come up with another unworkable solution.
Regionalism NOW.

Unfortunately for you, few Igbos know who Sulivan Chime is. Peter Obi has been a household name in Igbo land right from when he was governor and for many years doggedly combated those who wanted to ursurp his guber seat.

If a Orji Uzor Kalu or Rochas Okorocha was in the position of Peter Obi during the last presidential election, most of the Igbo would not bother to register for voting, those who registered would have queued behind Atiku or Tinubu.

Rotational Presidency is the best.

It is already operational within states but when it comes to Federal level those who should know better come in with their party and shout Emilokan which forces Mr. A to come out too to represent his party when it is obvious even to the blind that it is the turn of the SouthEASTERNERS and to make this 5% group( other 5% if not 3.5% are SS and minorities) have a sense of belonging all candidates must be from SE

Anyway the next in line will be Northerners(I guess NC NE)....We go see how dem go wan chance SS wen e reach our turn.

Better it's done in 6 regions. There is no way Tinubu can secure up to a thousand vote if it was the turn of Yorubas and he is contesting against a seasoned technocrats. He is a druggie they all know. He is old and suffer dementia. Those who ralied behind him are just tribalists who don't care about the country for so long as their tribesman is in charge. Tinubu would not have even won primaries.

The same goes for Buhari lack of criticism from the north. As for Peter Obi, Igbo people will always rally behind him anytime anyday.
Especially the ordinary Igbos in the streets.
Igbo people will always rally behind someone they themselves called a failure after his 8 years tenure as governor without any visible legacy? And the current state of Anambra State he governed is a testimony? And that is not tribalism? But Yoruba people should not rally behind Tinubu who transformed his state within same 8 years and have produced a lot of great leaders in the country? His state is still the best state in the country today where even all Anambra indigines are running to. Supporting a tested and trusted achiever is tribalism? What Igbos will cause in this country grin

Power rotation is anti-democratic. It is a political elite conspiracy to turn political power to a commodity to be traded and negotiated instead of sought for from the electorate. It seems Kperoogi is not familiar with what democracy is about. It is about participation of the populace in the governance process.
Power rotation totally negate that as it excludes some parts of the country at one point or the other from being voted for.
Any country with different nationalities like Nigeria is better served with a regional or provincial govt with a weak centre. That way, the regions are able to determine the pace of development by themselves while the centre takes care of issues that are general in nature.
Power rotation breeds ethnoreligous politics more than any other thing and the attendant "it's our turn to chop" mentality.
What we should be advocating for is stronger regions and weaker center

Power rotation is the BEST.... No region has everyone as a dunce not even for highly intelligent Nigerians.

5 years single term so e go quick reach 'all d children of one Nigeria'.

Resource control is important then, we all pay taxes to the Centre and for those who have some weak States among them eg SW, let the stronger ones( economically)like Lagos help the weaker ones( eg Osun, Oyo) after all they 'help' them during politics and we have been told that they can't be divided in anyway.

Let Senators and all others ( Chairman, Councillors) run single 5year term.

If states are practicing rotation why not at the Federal level.

Resource control and REGIONALISM may even start soon if in other to keep Nigeria as one we all sit down and agree that Atiku rules the North(?).... Asiwaju the West( after all he is very familiar with his region)..... Obi rules the East.... And 3 others are picked to cover the other geopolitical regions. Not only one region ( or handful)will do open eye for the others.

Resource control and REGIONALISM makes u value non indigenes in your midst since u will appreciate them for paying their taxes and helping to boost the economy in that region ( at least they will patronize locals there) as no reliance on oil money.

Resource control and REGIONALISM will help regions develop their seaports which will put less pressure on Lagos seaport and help Lagos look inwards to replace the income coming from the Lagos seaports especially from non indigenes.

I don't think presidential vs parliamentary system is the problem. As long as there is autonomy for the subnational units (be they regions or states), attention will shift from the president/ prime minister to the governors/ premiers thus leading to a situation whereby people will be more interested about what happens in their states/regions of origin than in their states/regions of residence.
